You'll find Hatters Hostel in a quirky Victorian building in the heart of dynamic Liverpool. We Liverpudlians are famous for the stories we can tell: we'll give you tips on where to go and arrange tours to places like the Beatles Museum and Anfield football stadium. You can join in on activity nights and pub crawls on Thursdays and Fridays, and make sure you're around on Tuesdays for free food in the evening. We've also got a BBQ area for dinners and beers al-fresco. At night the place to be is our on-site bar!

We're centrally located, close to the shops, clubs and streets that the city's famous for (Penny Lane, anyone?). We're also easy to get to, at just seven minutes from Lime Street Station and the coach station by foot. From Liverpool John Lennon Airport, we're about 50 minutes – just hop on the 86A bus and get off at Newington, which is a 4-minute walk away. To go clubbing, walk 15 minutes to the famous Kingdom nightclub and the Cavern Club where the Beatles played in their early years.

Rooms and Dorms

We have private rooms with plasma TVs for chilled evenings in, as well as mixed and female-only dormitories. All rooms and dorms have their own en-suite bathrooms. Private rooms come with free towels and bed linen (you can rent them in the dorms). Secure keycard access and a locked baggage room will keep you and your belongings safe, as will our 24-hour reception staff.

Extras and activities

Cook up quick meals in our large communal kitchen, or get a full English breakfast from us for just £5. You can help yourself to free tea and coffee all day (it's good Fair Trade stuff), which we like to enjoy in the outdoor courtyard. Head to our common room for a game of pool, foosball or table tennis, or just to use the free Wi-Fi that runs throughout the hostel.

We were definitely unlucky with our beds. The little lights and plugs would stop working the middle of the night. Super friendly staff. Very clean

    Very Good

A giant hostel which means you’re unlikely to get any rest as people both above and below you are coming and going at all hours. Most bathrooms don’t have locks either. Individual beds are fine but absurdly cramped dorms. It’s the best of a bad bunch in Liverpool though and they know it, no need to improve things when you’re the only ticket in town.

The location was very good, so close to the city centre. The staff were polite and very much helpful. The only thing I did not like was the cleanliness. The bed wasn't made when I arrived to it, which means it wasn't cleaned up since the last guest who slept on it. The bathroom wasn't clean. Rest everything was pretty content. If you're just staying a night, you can go for this one.

Whilst the hostel is in a great location and only a few minutes walk from the city centre, we were quite disappointed with our private room. The bathroom was damp and mouldy, and we could hear everything from the adjoining room. There was no atmosphere in the communal bar area, although as we visited just before Christmas we weren’t expecting many people to be around.

In the ensuited dorm toilet, the lock is broken. Room number 214. I had to use another bathroom far down beside the kitchen. The plugpoint beside my bed couldn't be used, apparently filled up with something. It would be better if people didn't have to buy padlocks for lockers. Lockers should have inbuilt locks.

The public space was dirty, there were towels all over the hallways soaking up leaks, smokers were standing outside my dorm room as I awoke, in a courtyard, and their smoke was inevitably wafting into the room. When I went to the kitchen in the middle of the night someone was sleeping on a sofa with a sleeping bag in the common space.

I'll be honest, I didn't enjoy this hostel. 1) the ensuite bathroom door didn't lock - felt very unsafe showering here when anyone could walk in (the staff couldn't help or change my room) 2) people stole my food from the kitchen 3) all the social activities (football nights, pub crawls) advertised when I booked were not offered anymore I'm happy to sleep rough for cheap but this was the worst hostel I've ever stayed at. I never felt relaxed here and would not recommend.
