Hatters at Hilton Chambers gives you a boutique hotel experience without blowing your budget. We're an on-trend option right in the heart of Manchester's bohemian Northern Quarter. There's free Wi-Fi everywhere from the dorms to the communal areas, and the bar (a couple of minutes away in our sister hostel) makes it easy to meet other travellers. Here for the weekend? Don't miss our Friday and Saturday night pub crawls.

The train from Manchester Airport takes about 20 minutes to Piccadilly Station, less than a 10-minute walk from the hostel. There's also a 24-hour bus service – really handy if you're flying in late. Metrolink tram stops are close by as well, giving you access to pretty much the entire city. We recommend having a look at Salford Quays to see the overhauled docks, or signing up for a tour of the Manchester City and United football stadiums.

Rooms and Dorms

You can pick from private double and twin rooms with en-suites, or mixed dorms with shared bathrooms. We also have a female-only dorm with en-suite. You'll have free linen, your own reading light to make getting ready for bed super cosy, and a secure locker to pop your backpack in. Keycard access helps to amp up the security so you can explore without stress.

Extras and activities

Our helpful staff are on hand 24/7 at reception to give you tips on what to do in Manchester. When you're not cooking in our shared kitchen, treat yourself to a discounted brunch, burger or drink at our own deli diner, Corner Boy. You can grab snacks from our vending machines if you get peckish out of hours, too. Our games room, with a PlayStation and pool table, is worth a visit, and we've got an outdoor terrace for those days when the British sun shines – it does happen, we promise!

We paid for an en-suite but we were checked into a room without a bathroom because of the new company that took over. The hostel is now called Selina which made it complicated to find it. The staff were super friendly though and since we were only there for a night, it wasn’t worth complaining.

Location is great. There is a nightclub underneath the hostel which is cool. Facilities are very clean. Staff is very friendly. The only downside is that rooms are too small and there’s is not enough ventilation. Good value for the money though.

    Very Good

Location is the massive bonus of this place! Staff were friendly. Room was basic (room 311 on top floor), but clean and bed linen clean also. Bar downstairs is noisy but we were up much later than the noise, so not a problem for us. Overall good stay.

No sorry I have come from work... You can't stay then.... Hope this doesn't happen again

Not a real hostel. Just a student dorm which is turned into a hostel over the summer. Thus there are no real common rooms, no typical hostel atmosphere where you'd meet other travellers. If you just want a cheap place to stay thats fine. If you want a real hostel, with other fellow travellers and not 40-somethings who need a cheap hotel, don't come here.

    - No hot water in the morning - Windows huge & thin, facing out onto a street of late night bars- might as well try and get some sleep in the (loud) pub downstairs- it's hopelessly loud in the dorm rooms. - Bathroom hinges creak so loudly that everytime anyone went to the loo EVERYONE woke up - Plug sockets in rooms didn't work - Wifi didn't work in room - Despite all this they still gouge you for £30 for a dorm bunk! Ripoff - profiteering by a big chain that can afford to be better.

Not enough characters to convey how awful it was. In short: we didn't get what we paid for (luggage storage, ensuite, etc.). When we brought it to their attention they said they didn't have the rm we pd for due to the heavy construction going on (which we weren't informed of either). The options they gave: take a small discount or go somewhere else. The rm they put us in had no windows that would open & it was the hottest day of the yr. I literally broke out in heat rash after 1 night there.

    * This rating is for the Hatters at Newton St., cause we had booking at Hatters at Hilton Chambers but got transferred. About the hostel we actually stayed: all the places were very dirty, the bathroom seemed that haven’t been cleaned in days. There were 4 showers: one out of service, one without a door, one didn’t had enough water, and the other one was ok, though all of them were dirty as well. There’s no locker in the bedrooms.
