Overview

Hatters at Hilton Chambers gives you a boutique hotel experience without blowing your budget. We're an on-trend option right in the heart of Manchester's bohemian Northern Quarter. There's free Wi-Fi everywhere from the dorms to the communal areas, and the bar (a couple of minutes away in our sister hostel) makes it easy to meet other travellers. Here for the weekend? Don't miss our Friday and Saturday night pub crawls.

Location

The train from Manchester Airport takes about 20 minutes to Piccadilly Station, less than a 10-minute walk from the hostel. There's also a 24-hour bus service – really handy if you're flying in late. Metrolink tram stops are close by as well, giving you access to pretty much the entire city. We recommend having a look at Salford Quays to see the overhauled docks, or signing up for a tour of the Manchester City and United football stadiums.

Rooms and Dorms

You can pick from private double and twin rooms with en-suites, or mixed dorms with shared bathrooms. We also have a female-only dorm with en-suite. You'll have free linen, your own reading light to make getting ready for bed super cosy, and a secure locker to pop your backpack in. Keycard access helps to amp up the security so you can explore without stress.

Extras and activities

Our helpful staff are on hand 24/7 at reception to give you tips on what to do in Manchester. When you're not cooking in our shared kitchen, treat yourself to a discounted brunch, burger or drink at our own deli diner, Corner Boy. You can grab snacks from our vending machines if you get peckish out of hours, too. Our games room, with a PlayStation and pool table, is worth a visit, and we've got an outdoor terrace for those days when the British sun shines – it does happen, we promise!

The tap in our room was leaking, so a big part of the floor was wet. There was no hot water in the shower. Good location, nice staff and comfortable beds. The staff helped me out a lot during my stay and were ready to go extra mile.

Only one shower for a 10 bed dorm kinda sucks. There was also no hot water for the first 2 nights :( bed was also broken and had to ask to move to a new one. Kitchen was shut for renovation too which wasn't mentioned till I arrived. Location is pretty great though if you don't mind a bit of noise, very close to city centre. Price is very good as well. Hostel seemed to have a fun atmosphere and feels like a friendly environment.

Safe, very well located, and reasonable price. However; cold water shower, really noisy for weekends, not properly cleaned.

Location was good however the room was extremely loud due to the music coming from the pub below. I thought this wouldn't go too late being a Sunday night but it went all night. There was a big patch of water all over the floor just after the room had apparently been cleaned. The shower was FREEZING cold and to top it off, the light in the bathoom was on a sensor so turned off while in the shower!!! Powerpoints and lights at each bed were great.

I had the worst night of my life at this hostel. I could not sleep during the night due to loud music (even my bed was vibrating from the bass). My room (108) was located next to the hostel bar. Also the room was very dirty -dust everywhere and the linen were not changed after previous hostel guest. In addition, I had to pay for 2 nights even tho I stayed just for one night due to the hostel policy. However, the receptionist told me that I could have cancelled the second night 24h ahead.

Filthy. Just filthy. I wish I could add pictures of the facilities to make you realise how disgusting it was. Didn't use the toilets or showers for the whole stay (which was luckily just one night) because of how dirty they were. Bunk beds were falling apart, mattress almost non-existent, dirty bed sheets, dust everywhere. Almost no lockers available - none in the rooms anyway, just on the corridors, some of which suspiciously broken. Absolutely not worth the money, even if it's super cheap.

They cancelled my 2 night booking without telling me, only found out when I got there. Luckily they found a bed for 1 night at Mad Hatters Newton St, which I needed but the place is absolutely disgusting, broken showers, toilets, no hot water, filthy rooms. Somebody walked out of the hostel so I managed to grab the 2nd night, otherwise I would have had to abandon the stay completely as there were no beds available on the day in Manchester. I give the staff 5/5 for helping me out.

Cancelled on me a few days before booking through email. No phone call. No apology. 6 of us left without a place to stay unless we pay 3x more than budgeted for.
