Hilltop is a well-run, clean and safe place just steps from the Takoma metro station - an excellent value. There's green space in back, an ample kitchen, and plenty of indoor common areas. I got in fairly late on Thursday but that wasn't a problem. John & crew took great care of me from start to finish. Looking forward to my next visit!

Very close to metro, CVS, & 7-11. Thisarea is friendly and historical. Suggest reading the folder in the hostel’s kitchen about Takoma’s history. Not too far from the Rock Creek Park if you like nature & trails. Lots of outdoor space, patios on each floor & a back yard with a hammock& benches. But not well-maintained. Room5 is bright from natural lighting. The bunk bed is very shaky. You can feel another person tossing in the night. AC is on the middle of the wall which makes upper beds hot.

Check in was easy and staff was friendly and helpful. Home was clean, bed was comfortable. Sheets and towels were clean but pretty old. Home was very old and could definitely use some TLC. All said though, I only paid $28 dollars so I would stay again.

I was pleasantly surprised with how nice and easy the stay was. Me and my fiancé had never stayed in a hostel before but it was remarkably easy and low maintenance and super nice! Obviously the building was a little older but aside from that and the wear and tear that just comes from being an older building it was perfect for what we needed!

My stay was comfortable, but I was a little upset that I was placed in a room on third floor. It was a lot of walking up and down the stairs, the room was comfortable and nicely furnished.

Disinterested and cold management. He was too used to his job to think of us as individuals rather than paying customers. Interesting guests and great conversation. Bathrooms were clean. Water was hot. Dish sponge was sour. Room 4 had bed bugs, and one followed me, hitching onto my backpack. The room smelled like pot. Awesome location--just across the street from Takoma Station on the red line (metro). I wouldn't stay again, but it wasn't terrible.

far from everything- out in a suburb. Security is just a code on the door that anyone could learn. No staff present, even for check in. No lockers. No atmosphere. Two tiny single bathrooms for the whole house. It appears most people who stay here live here for weeks at a time, and are definitely not travelers. Everyone here also was like 40+ years old. I’m a solo female traveler, and not only did I not meet any people, but also felt weird. Don't stay here unless all you need is a bed, 1 night.
