Property Description

Hlemmur Square combines luxury hostel and upscale hotel accommodations under one roof. Named for the central meeting spot that once served as a watering hole for travelers and their horses, Hlemmur Square is quickly becoming an extension of the city’s downtown neighborhood.

Located on the 3rd and 4th floors, the hostel rooms offer an upscale dormitory style accommodation. The beds are custom made to be absolutely noise free and feature the colors of Reykjavík with their colorful corrugated iron underside. The spacious rooms offer ample space with seating areas, large lockers for every guest and black out curtains to help ensure your good night sleep during Iceland’s famous midnight sun. The beds are made up with quality linens, bed sheets, duvets and pillows. We do not accept sleeping bags. Hostel guests have access to all the facilities such as food service, bar with a happy hour and lounges. Two guest-kitchens and a set of lounges on the hostel floor with a playroom provide a place to cook, relax and meet other travelers. View House Rules

Overview

Make your hostel stay in Reykjavík that bit more luxurious at Hlemmur Square. We're a hotel and hostel in one – ideal if you can't choose between the two! The hostel is on the third and fourth floors, while on the first floor you’ll find a bar and a restaurant with budget-friendly meals. When you’re not sipping a fine IPA, hang out and meet other travellers in one of our two colourful lounges, complete with pool tables we've placed there for you to buddy up with new pals.

Location

We’re in downtown Reykjavík in the lively Hlemmur neighbourhood, where you’ll find plenty of museums, restaurants and bars. A stay here is a great chance to get up close and personal with some of the city’s best sights. The modern cathedral Hallgrímskirkja is a 9-minute walk away, and the unique Icelandic Phallological Museum (Google what that means!) is just across the road. Reykjavík Airport is only an 8-minute bus ride away, while getting to Keflavík International Airport takes around an hour and 45 minutes on public transport.

Rooms and Dorms

Back at the hostel, discover rooms created for chill-out time. Choose between twin or multi-bed private rooms, or go for a mixed or female-only dorm if you’re saving cash. All have lockers, free linen and custom-made noise-free beds (no more creaking as you turn over!), and they come with blackout curtains for a good night's sleep even during Iceland’s famous midnight sun.

Extras and activities

Cooking up something delicious for tonight’s dinner? You’ve got free rein in our two guest kitchens. Feed other hungry guests if you've made too much in the lounge or common games room. The 24-hour reception staff will give you a free city map for exploring, or you can download your route using our free Wi-Fi. Our hostel has 24-hour keycard access (meaning no curfew). Hop in the elevator up to your room when you're headed to bed.

Everything about this hostel was perfect. Location: great. There’s even free parking on sundays since it’s not right in old town. Super clean. Spacious showers. Lots of stalls.

Exceptional Fish (as always in Iceland) for dinner and delicious wine for a great price. Comfortable bed; adequate shower; good storage; over all, an excellent time.

Amazing! That's the word it comes to describe this hostel. The environment, facilities and location are the best value for the money you can find in the capital. The staff is very opened, friendly and always ready to help you at whatever you need. You can also find really interesting guests there, make nice friendships because it's a place where people like to stay for a mid-long term. The only "not so good" are the WCs and shared kitchens cleaning.. I definitely recommend this hostel!

I will definitely book here again when I’m in Reykjavík! Beds were clean and comfortable, with lockable drawers to store belongings. You can’t beat the location - it was such a lovely area and a quick walk from everything! Staff was kind and flexible. Great experience!

Good location, I could walk to BSI terminal and Reykjavik airport easily from the hostel. Met some interesting people there. Cleanliness wasn't always up to snuff, but wasn't too bad.

Very nice hostel in a great location, but almost felt more like a hotel and didn’t have great vibes.

Really great hostel. The one bloke I pestered at the desk was so friendly and helpful with public transport. Supermarket & bus stop both across the road, and close walk to main bar, restaurant and shopping streets. Great kitchen and stacks of common space. Good wifi throughout and very secure - keycard needed to get to the dorm floors as well as rooms. Toilets & showers so-so. Beds also very simple & top bunks have a side railing only but still comfortable. Would definitely return here!

Good location next to one of the bus terminals. Whilst the place was cleaned on a daily basis, both the kitchen and toilets could do with a deep clean. Leftover food in fridges is always an issue for hostels. What the hostel needs is a system of labeling and dating. Not just a clean once a week.

    Good

Upon arrival we found available beds with dirty sheets and garbage all over the rooms including in the storage units under the beds and all around the edges between the mattress and wall. We spoke with a staff member about the cleanliness of the beds and were instructed to pick a different bunk. He was rude with us and made no effort to clean the area or help us what so ever. The condition of the room remained unchanged throughout our 3 night stay with no one occupying those beds.
