Overview

Set in a historic hotel in Lyon's La Guillotière neighbourhood, our stylish Ho36 Hostel has got a ton of atmosphere – starting from our basement chill-out room. With its vaulted ceiling, it's got plenty of character old-world charm: make this room a spooky backdrop for telling scary stories or snapping arty selfies. Get to know your fellow travellers over a beer in our bar, or grab a bite in our cosy café while you put together your schedule.

Location

La Guillotière is near the university, and has plenty of lively student nightlife and a cool bohemian feel. Wander round the area and you'll find loads of bars, restaurants and art studios. The Rhône is just a few blocks away, too – the ideal setting for a morning jog or an afternoon wander. We're a 2-minute walk away from the Saint-André tram stop, where you can hop on the T1 tram: this takes you to the main train station, Lyon-Part-Dieu. If you're coming from Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport, catch the Ouibus and you'll be with us in just over an hour.

Rooms and Dorms

We have mixed and female-only dorms, all with keycard access and lockers for extra security. If you'd rather get away from the crowds, our private rooms are ideal for small groups and couples. We provide the linen and you can rent towels from reception if you forgot to pack one. Free Wi-Fi is available in the rooms, too, so you can catch up on your binge-watching before you snooze.

Extras and activities

Grab a free city map from reception or just load one up on your phone – we've got free Wi-Fi all through the building so it's easy to research the best bits of the city. While you're busy planning your days in Lyon, you can put a load of laundry in our washing machine. We've got a dryer, too, so you can clean your clothes ready for a night out, or for your next adventure – because who knows what's in store tomorrow?

    Very Good

Pros: Easy to get to all parts of the city on foot/public transport. Staff are generally helpful. Cheap rooms. Cons: Cleanliness in the room was below par. Carpets have stains. Pillow cases were not provided so I thought that was unhygienic assuming they were passed on from the last guests. Shared bathroom was also disappointing. Toilets smelled bad half the time and conditions in the shower was abominable and the drain was blocked!! You get what you paid for but at least it should be clean!

For the love of God, get some air conditioning. 8 adults in a 4th floor room in summer heat without it does not equal sleep. It equals mosquitoes.

Ok , Let me say this first I’ve stayed in a lot of hostel over the years. I’ll never stay at this one again. People were great ! The place is bad. 8 people in a small cramp room only room to put you feet on side of bed. Locker broken under beds. One narrow bathroom with one functional shower no windows of fresh air. Bathroom was for at least 16 people. The whole place is painted black, fan would have been great in front of only window ! No outlet only opposite wall keep fresh air out !

Felt more like a pub with rentable beds. The hostel part was descent but since the lobby literally was the pub, whenever you had to ask something you had to stand and wait for all pub guests to finish their orders which felt odd. Many security lockers were broken and couldn't be locked. I saw two in the same room that were broken, and one in another room. The "kitchen" was a joke, it was literally an old bathroom where they hid the toilet by covering it with bookshelves. It had almost nothing.

Although this hostel was clean and modern, the staff were rude (presumably due to us not speaking french) and the location was rough to the point we felt uncomfortable. However the biggest problem me and my partner faced was that although booking two beds at the same time, we were put into separate rooms 3 floors apart. Upon enquiry, we were told there was nothing they could do and if we booked again we should note we wanted to be together, even though there were empty beds in both rooms.

ho36 has a lot to improve when considering a true hostel experience. There is no such common room to hang out and meet other travelers Their main area is the restaurant where they told me that outside food must be eaten in the "eating room" (a sad, sad place secluded from everything with just a microwave - only fits 4 people). The location is not ideal either.

No washer and dryer in the facility, even though it was listed. No air con or fans and very little air circulation. Didn’t have a very social or friendly vibe

Hostel bedrooms were fine (minus half the lockers being broken) and the showers were fine however the location feels really unsafe as a solo traveller. There is no proper common area, the “kitchen” is a microwave and toaster n an outside building with room for four people to sit and eat. The downstairs is a bar which is nice but expensive and mainly used by locals not those in a hostel. Dont waste €8 on the breakfast.

I was very unimpressed with this hostel. The neighborhood is sketchy. There aren’t any supermarkets or food around it either. The rooms have no air conditioning. At least there is a fan, but it was so incredibly hot in the room. The room felt like a prison cell with gray walls and bunk beds. The showers were ok but one of the bathrooms had a messed up toilet seat. The WiFi is almost nonexistent and I ended up using my data most of the time. I do not recommend.

The place was filthy, located in a dangerous neighborhood with high rate of crime, no air conditioning, I had to pay 8 EURO for eating LEFTOVERS as breakfast. I won't come back to this place!
