Overview

Set in a historic hotel in Lyon's La Guillotière neighbourhood, our stylish Ho36 Hostel has got a ton of atmosphere – starting from our basement chill-out room. With its vaulted ceiling, it's got plenty of character old-world charm: make this room a spooky backdrop for telling scary stories or snapping arty selfies. Get to know your fellow travellers over a beer in our bar, or grab a bite in our cosy café while you put together your schedule.

Location

La Guillotière is near the university, and has plenty of lively student nightlife and a cool bohemian feel. Wander round the area and you'll find loads of bars, restaurants and art studios. The Rhône is just a few blocks away, too – the ideal setting for a morning jog or an afternoon wander. We're a 2-minute walk away from the Saint-André tram stop, where you can hop on the T1 tram: this takes you to the main train station, Lyon-Part-Dieu. If you're coming from Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport, catch the Ouibus and you'll be with us in just over an hour.

Rooms and Dorms

We have mixed and female-only dorms, all with keycard access and lockers for extra security. If you'd rather get away from the crowds, our private rooms are ideal for small groups and couples. We provide the linen and you can rent towels from reception if you forgot to pack one. Free Wi-Fi is available in the rooms, too, so you can catch up on your binge-watching before you snooze.

Extras and activities

Grab a free city map from reception or just load one up on your phone – we've got free Wi-Fi all through the building so it's easy to research the best bits of the city. While you're busy planning your days in Lyon, you can put a load of laundry in our washing machine. We've got a dryer, too, so you can clean your clothes ready for a night out, or for your next adventure – because who knows what's in store tomorrow?

Ho36 is a great place to stay in. It has a great price/quality relation, they don't have keys, but a bracelet that allows you to enter your "side of the floor" and your room. Each floor has two sides, each side with 3 rooms, and in each room there can be up to 8 people. Each person has a really big locker in which you can store even two suitcases, but you need to have your own lock. Each "side of the floor" has two showers and a toilet. In the 5th floor there's a common space to chill.

Great time at the hostel: good facilities and friendly staff. A bit pricy, I guess according to the city standards.

The dormitory was small and cramped they like to stuff as many people as possible in the available space. Downstairs they have a restaurant and bar which has a very relaxed atmosphere. It’s nicely situated, grab a map and go for a walk, the city is pleasant to walk around both by day and night.

Lovely staff, comfy beds but Covid-19 risk. Unlike some other hostels, dorms were fully booked, 8 of us in an airless room for hours. Breakfast buffet involved multiple items shared between travellers from all over the world. High risk! Nice location but very noisy street and slamming door kept us awake, as another traveller noted. Convenient depending on your appetite for risk.

I was very with my stay. I had the feeling that the restaurant costumers got prioritized over the hostel costumers. I felt forced into my room, without having any facilities to enjoy besides the bed and bathroom. For example When I wanted to cut a bread I got asked not to because of Covid-19 (which I found a bit funny since I stayed in a very tiny room with 7 other people). When I asked where it was possible/allowed for me to cut my bread, did I get told that wasn’t possible. Security was good!

Wouldn't go back. It is more a regular hostel instead of a backpackers. In my room everyone were +50yr that were there for job interviews dressed in suits and other odd people. The bathroom was very dirty. Not my style.
