Property Description

Hobart Central YHA is one of the most central hostel in all of Hobart – we are right opposite the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, one block from the Harbour and less than 10 minutes walk to Salamanca.

Our staff hail from all over the world but have decided to call Hobart home and are more than happy to help you plan your island adventure. We know the best tour operators (hint: they’re not all on Instagram) the secret spots, how to get there and how to fit it all in to your 5 day itinerary (because you probably thought Tasmania is “just that little island underneath Australia”, right?).

If you prefer recommendations for good coffee and amazing local produce over where to find the cheapest goon, then we’re probably the hostel for you. We have regular activities that change with the season so make sure you check out our website to see what’s on.

Reception is attended from 8am - 10pm. If arriving outside these hours, please call the number on the front door and the night supervisor will assist you. View House Rules

Situated right in the centre of Hobart, it’s in a perfect location for all your activities. Rooms and bathrooms were very clean and I never felt unsafe during my stay. The winning part of this hostel is it’s incredible staff. They were so friendly, caring and understanding. I had to extend my stay a few times due to the COVID situation and they could not have been more accommodating. I felt so comfortable here.

Very good hostel. Those that need socialisation and partying, may find that hostel lacks one central place/room where people can gather around.

Great Hostel for Australian standards, the staff especially Sarah was amazing and the platypus walk! Great location too! The bell down the road ringing gets a little annoying at night, showers were warm and good, but could use some cleaning after the evening peak and before the morning peak! Kitchen definitely could be bigger!

    Fabulous

The staff were so kind! It was easy to check in and out. The other reviews about cleanliness being low are true though (I didn't want to believe them). My bed they'd put sheets on for me to set up/stay in had a yellow pee-ish stain on it. I just moved to a bottom bunk when one became free the next day. The hostel is in the best location but like other reviews, not many hang out spots to meet people other than your own room.

Experience is very dependent upon what room you get. 3rd floor rooms are dingy and dark, 1st floor rooms are light and nice. Lack of atmosphere in the entire hostel, common rooms are not central. Kitchen is tiny, dirty and only has 5 seats. Staff were good.

Booked a few weeks ago but despite this that latecomers still managed to get the lower bed of the bunk and as no one got a numbered bed and as al paid the same rate, first come first served. I did not get a lower bed as I thought I would have managed to get it.I have weak thigh muscles and could not get up the bunk bed with the child's ladder and plus the mattress bounced advanced bookings with numbers, I got the lower bed of a squeaking bunk. A young lady moved in the middle of the night.
