A must do for San Juan! A fantastic hostel whose staff and volunteers make it a special place to be. Their ability to make your experience a special one seems effortless but behind the scenes the hard work and dedication is brilliant. Everyday shuttles to and from a surrounding beach, surf boards and lessons available everyday, events on every night and last but not least the amazing Sunset Fest that falls on a Saturday. Also, the hostel dog ‘Ola’ is a beauty! Look forward to returning one day!

Hola Ola is the best hostel in SJDS! Great athmosphere, lovely staff, awesome the pool, SunsetFest, nice activities, delicious food. It is a social place but not a party hostel. Location is a bit outside of the town but in a walking distance. They offer surf beach shuttle daily for $5 and board rentals for $10. I was going to stay for a couple of nights but ended up extending and coming back! Totally recommended :)

Quiet area in San Juan, remote from the city, but very accessible to everything by walk. Horacio (the owner) wants everyone to have a great time!

The hostel is really nice and the staff are lovely. One issue though was that the rooms were so hot on a night and one of the fans kept stopping working, unless the plug was properly taped to the wall.

Was a little disappointed to be honest. Booked here based on the glowing reviews online but suspect that these are due more so to the free drink for review policy. Main issue was that the roof leaked throughout the whole hostel including the rooms so there was water on the floor and dampness everywhere. 2 dorms were flooded during our stay. Not the fault of staff who are lovely, but detracted from our stay. Not a lot of atmosphere mid week but ramps more into party mode for the weekend.

Ant infestation in the AC room to the point where I couldn’t sleep in my bed. Probably a one off but unfortunately couldn’t tell any staff members because there weren’t any around. The sunset party is fun but really dragged on to the point where it was unenjoyable. Multiple people left early and the rest of us were ready to leave at 730 but were told we had to wait until 9pm. Perhaps a staggered shuttle would be better.

When we asked for dinner, we were told that dinner was ‘not available’ tonight, despite the big blackboard as you walk in claiming there is ‘ family dinner every night’. When asked how to get to the town we’re told the boats run everyday until 10pm. Again not true. At 7.30 we went and the boat was no longer running. The walk is 15/20 minutes but requires walking through the sea, which at night is typically high tide, leaving no option but to get a taxi which is expensive. VERY frustrating.
