Property Description

Hootananny is a lively hostel with spacious rooms in a traditional Edwardian public house dating back to the early 1850s. We offer large, airy, comfortable rooms and have a great reputation for a warm atmosphere and helpful staff. We're located in the heart of Brixton with excellent transport links - a great location to stay and explore the city of London.

With just a ten-minute walk to Brixton underground station, you are straight into Central London on the tube in less than 15 minutes. As one of London’s most diverse and vibrant areas, Brixton has world famous covered and street markets, is a hub for music venues, is full of atmospheric pubs and has the pick of the world’s best cuisine with a great selection of restaurants. Hootananny is located right next to two bus stops with 24-hour connections to the city centre.

Hostellers are treated to a 20% discount on drinks at the award-winning bar downstairs that was recently crowned Best Live Music venue in London. Festival headliner Manu Chao chose Hootananny bar to give a secret show after his festival performance, and Hootananny star gigs include big gypsy bands, hip hop, dubstep, afrobeat, live reggae acts from Jamaica, ska, world music and indie rock. Fridays during winter also feature live comedy, and entrance is free before 10pm.

I booked this hostel last minute and made the mistake of booking for the night after. I told them this and they were understanding and allowed me to stay that night instead. The price was excellent considering breakfast was included. I highly recommend this hostel.

A great place to stay in the vibrant area of London, Brixton. The atmosphere was amazing on the day I was there with a festival going on right around the corner, with the pub attached to the hostel full of people to talk to which is one of the best parts of this hostel experience. The actual hostel itself is great with excellent security, comfortable beds and all the facilities you could ask for, with lovely staff to boot I would recommend this place to anyone coming to London.

I had a great stay at the Hootananny. The staff was incredible nice, welcoming, and helpful. Although it’s a bit of maze inside at first, it was easy enough to figure out after a few times going in and out of rooms. Everything seemed relatively clean and more than satisfying for the low cost of staying in the hostel. It’s a warm and quirky environment as long as your ok with loud or late nights I would absolutely recommend as simple accommodations for a stay in London.

    Very Good

Great location and good value. Free WiFi, coffee and breakfast. Showers and toilets good value and everyone friendly. Nice addition to get a locker with key as well. Bedding was clean but some shady stains. Bed was comfy but room was unbearably hot, even after a bit to drink I struggled to sleep it was so warm. Bare in mind it’s above a live music venue and bar that’s booming until 3am on a Friday and Saturday night - and it’s LOUD. Free parking in the street on a weekend though.

Location of the hostel was about a 15 minute walk to the underground but wasn’t terrible. Staff was nice and helpful. Bathrooms weren’t very clear but the showers had great water pressure and hot water.

Rooms are like prison. People there are weird, loud and gross. Facilities are small and gross. Its an old hostel with a gross atmosphere and no air.

The bar located below was a good time but due to this it made it very hard to sleep as the music vibrated the walls the entire night. The photos displayed online are nothing like what it is... we found it very dirty - none of the bathrooms had soap or sanitizer and there was a clogged toilet for 2 out of the 3 nights of our stay without anyone coming to fix it. Also, in the 6 bed female room there were several ladies who seemed to have completely moved in with their stuff all over.
