Here you can learn about the local culture, meet and talk with new friends, practice your Spanish, read a good book (book exchange or book recommendations), play guitar or other musical instruments (we organize chamber concerts or invite local musicians to to interpret the songs of Nicaragua), to recite a poem (nights of poetry), to share their experiences of trip (presentations of photos in our projector or nocturnal conversations ...), to cook a plate of their country or to learn to cook a local, to take a few drinks, playing chess or cards, painting, watching a documentary about Nicaraguan history, taking photos, sitting outside on the rocking chairs (ask at reception) and then going to discover León, Nicaragua.

Many of our guests stay here longer than planned considering The Albergue as the home away from home. We are happy to help you relax, we are a good community, caring and sharing. Of course, we are not perfect, so you can always leave us suggestions at the reception and we will be happy to help.

Hostal El Albergue was my second hostel in León. El Albergue is decorated in a very colorful way and has a laid back vibe, as opposed to some more party oriented hostels. When I first walked in, I thought I had made a mistake booking the place. It looked a little cheapy. But after just one night there it became my favorite place in León. The people who stay there know it's a gem, and locals from the community hang out there as well.

This hostel was super funky and fun. It is an older hostel and has heaps of character. The facilities are good and great Wi-Fi. There were only 4 people staying there when we stayed and only us the last night but atmosphere was still fun as we just had beers with Fran the owner. The location is good just a few blocks from the main square. The staff were super fun and helpful and had great recomendations. Kitchen was spacious and well stocked. Would definitely stay again.

Really liked this hostel. Staff was friendly and helpful, the ambiance was great. Sure, it didn't look shiny and squeaky-clean, but I liked the livedin feel. The bathroom/shower/sheets were clean. Facilities were good, I liked the creative repurposing of the plastic bottles. Breakfast unfortunately wasn't ready until 9 (was posted as starting at 8), so I didn't get a chance to try it. Slept well, was nice and quiet, but close to everything in the city I wanted to see. Would definitely come back.

    Fabulous

Totalmente recomendable!

The 4 bed private room with an ensuite was not quite as advertised - it was a double bunk bed with no ensuite. The staff, while no doubt trying to be helpful, were not particularly useful in terms of suggestions / booking day trips. The hostel itself has a nice relaxed vibe with pretty decent facilities. The dorm may be a better option for those looking for rather cheap and basic accommodation in a good location.

I’m sure once upon a Time, maybe a decade ago, this would have been a great place to stay, lovely little courtyard Garden and rustic kitchen, but that was now, now this place looks and feels Tired, too many bunks in the dorm room, rotting bathrooms And a total lack Of atmosphere. I wouldn’t go back when there are so many better options for the money. Wish I had stayed at Via Via!

Booked 2x booking 7x persons & 3x persons separate bookings via Hostelworld . Drove 2 hours and paid deposit by Hostelworld and we got there and they said they didn’t check Hostelworld so they were fully booked!! After a while- of a friend speaking fluent Spanish we got our deposits back but it seems don’t book via hostelworld as they don’t take it seriously! We read good reviews and chose there but didn’t stay due to mix up. Hospitality might be good but we didn’t experience it! :(

An outdated place with a musty smell and en estimated bazillion hungry mosquitoes. The place is not very clean, the walls of the dorm don't not reach the ceiling and it is thus connected to the common area. While in the dorm one can hear ppl cook in the kitchen or use the toilet. The dorm is open to the outside with no mosquito screens and one gets eaten alive by mosquitoes both night and day. Also cats lie on the dining tables. Lack of electr. sockets, only a ceiling fan, place gets baking hot.
