Property Description

We have painstakingly renovated a cultural building with the hostel experience in mind, with large kitchen and common areas, interesting exposed 'Barrio' traditional brick walls and antique timber pillars, double glass insulated windows for less street noise and warmth/coolness, modern big bathrooms and a location fantastic for both relaxing in or enjoying the night life close by. Rooms include free Wifi, use of well equipped kitchen and book exchange. Hostal Licanantay is truly a great choice when searching backpacker hostels in our colourful and creative city Valparaiso.

We are conveniently located close to the plan on Avenida Ecuador, so easy to get to by foot, bus (number 607 stops out front), colectivo or taxi, and located only just on the outskirts of the exciting bar night-life, meaning not so noisy when you sleep, but close and convenient walking distance to get back to the hostel if heading out.

Our rooms are recently re-built and renovated, with insulation, thick doors and double glass windows for noise and temperature control for complete comfort for our guests. We have rooms of varying bed numbers, from a private room of one set of bunks (2 beds), 3 rooms of 2 sets of bunks (4 beds) and 2 rooms of 4 bunks (8 beds). All havesupplementary wifi.

Very nice Hostel, good location! Very clean and the staff was friendly. Rooms are more than big enough and big windows. Not loud even tough it is next to the street. Safe neighbourhood and close to bars! Only wish I have is to maybe have oil in the kitchen :) Gracias!

Staff was really nice, but there weren’t a lot of travellers. It was mostly the staff, and they occupied the kitchen and common area a lot, and I felt I was a bother if I asked about turning the disco music down, but I’m the guest who tjey’re accommodating. Strange. BUT, however, it was overall a really nice hostel with overall a nice staff even though I felt a bit like intruding.

Nice clean light and airy hostel. Rooms are big and beds are comfy. Very chilled atmosphere. Bathrooms only on the ground floor but this was not a problem as it is a small place so didn’t have to go far anyway. Breakfast is bread and jam. Upstairs landing is not fully decorated but we didn’t mind walking past it. Location is in between main town and pretty cerros so was good however I would consider staying up the hill actually on one of their cerros as the town isn’t very nice.

Overall liked it, but there was loads of building work on, and only one shower with a door attached when we were there! Staff were nice, but not that interested in the guests and were the only ones up drinking till 4 in the morning pretty loudly, then were too hungover to have breakfast ready in the morning! A nice enough hostel to be based in, but could be a bit lonely as a solo traveller.

This hostel was ok. Big rooms, big beds, nice bathroom. Breakfast was bread and jam. Loud music at all times, and there was no hot water in the showers. Good location, and friendly staff.

Hostel is still under (very slow) construction. The staff appear to carry out minor jobs like hanging shower curtains little by little, leaving their tools everywhere, and partying till late at night in the main atrium off which are the bedrooms. This led to them rushing out late and hungover for breakfast bits and using the kitchen carelessly (raw chicken left on a board for hours). The building is nice, the rooms are comfortable and the location is good but they need to be more professional.
