I returned to Akilpo because of my previous experience. I was delighted to see that this family run business (where the three brothers are assisted by mother and father) has organically expanded to include a brand new South Korean restaurant on the top floor, new dorms, a clothes washing facility and most impressive a new premises for the expedition side of the business in the main Huaraz trekking square. Good people running a good, friendly, family business. Recommended

Benjamin, Leo, Esteban and the rest of the family really took care of us during our time in Huaraz. They made our stay great and gave us some really amazing tips. The hostel itself was great - clean, quiet, lots of common space, hot showers, luggage storage and good wifi. The best part of Akilpo was the guys who were super accommodating and gave us a lot of advice that made our travels very easy and fun. Would highly recommend to anyone!

I loved my time at Hostel Akilpo!! Benjamin on the front desk was so nice and helpful, they organise amazing day tours which are different to the ones you can find elsewhere, and the beds were super comfy! The kitchen area also had a really nice vibe and I met some lovely people. Definitely stay here when you go to Huaraz!

Best hostel I have stayed at in South America. Very comfy beds. Privacy curtain on bunks. Good kitchen and common area facility. Reception was helpful - but be aware they are shut from 6am to 10pm. The location is great, near restaurants and the market. They helped me organise day trips while I was waiting for my Santa Cruz trek to start. Wifi was also good. The showers had a funny smell but that is all that was wrong with the place.

This is a really nice hostel with a great communal area. The area is a little noisy but I think that’s just Huaraz. Kitchen isn’t perfect and not good during crowded periods. A nice touch is the curtains on the beds that allow you to touch yourself at night without fear of voyeurism from sick and perverted room mates.

    Very Good

This hostel is well located in Huaraz, just next to the market, but be prepared for a lot of noise. Akilpo is also a trekking company and the staff at the hostel is more than happy to help you find the right trek. We did however experience that they were more interested in selling the most expensive treks rather than being transparent about the itinerary. For example the Panorama hike, is essentially the same as Laguna 69, with a different starting point (with a price difference of a 130 soles).
