Great hostel! Benjamin was really helpful and gave me some good advice for day hikes to do on my own. Everything is very clean and well organised. Only the kitchen could be a bit bigger for the amount of people who want to cook there. But there's a big and nice common area to hang out and meet people. Over all absolutely great and I would definitely come back here!

Really recommanded! Try their tours, you will not regret it. Personnel is nice and very helpful, we had a nice time thanks to him. Too bad the others don't speak english so well. We had a private room. Clean hostel, nice little kitchen. The Korean restaurant is really good, you have to try it. We really liked it. Nice big common area, even tho there is not much to do. Close to a main street, so bring your earplugs (with them it's okay tho).

Stayed for a week and half, great staging spot for day hikes and Santa Cruz. AMAZING location, right next to market which has everything. Rooms are a little noisy at night, either from street or hostel noise. Kitchen is a little lacking for how many people cook every night (4 burners???), but great common area. Nice staff. Really comfortable beds and 4 bed room has privacy curtains = amazing. Would totally stay here again.

One of the reviews we saw here said the staff were only trying to sell akilpo tours and they weren't helpful otherwise. This is such a lie. We only did 1 trek through the hostel (not even akilpo) and everything else solo, Benjamin especially was so helpful and gave us lots of options of less popular things to do, where to get buses from etc. We stayed 8 days in total, in dorms and a private room. Yes the hostel is a bit noisy, just bring ear plugs. Can get busy in the kitchen with only 1 hob.

Pros: Good value, very comfortable beds with privacy curtains, rooms were clean, staff were really friendly and helpful and location was good (although noisy due to the market). Cons: Kitchen is far too small for the amount of guests, meaning too crowded at mealtimes, not enough utensils and what is available is poor quality. The fridge is also too full, if you want to cook your own meals I can not recommend. One day we waited over an hour to use a hob and begin cooking.

Pros: super comfy beds, great location, good common area Cons: VERY bad wifi, VERY bad kitchen (it takes ages to cook water on the stove, the kitchen itself is badly equipped), unpredictable showers (too hot, ice cold) I recommend to choose another hostel if you want to cook your own food!

Booked at Akilpo because it had great ratings and mentioned that they would have an English speaking employee at the front desk. When we checked in employee was nice - took our money. THEN, said our room was actually in a building down the street, which turned out to be a completely different hostel: Universal. If booking a private room, be warned that you may be arbitrarily moved to another hostel. Nobody at desk and no English. Also Akilpo charges for bag storage and showers after checkout.
