There's so much to see in Florence that you'll definitely want a central base from which to explore – that's where our homely Hostel Gallo d'Oro comes in. And with our free all-day buffet to keep you going from breakfast until dinner, you'll be able to save on your budget and get to know other guests in our cheerful dining room. Our rooms, which have a maximum of six beds each, add to the cosy feel. We've also got creature comforts like air con, an elevator and free Wi-Fi throughout the hostel.

The iconic Duomo cathedral is less than 15 minutes away – and if you keep walking, you’ll hit the Ponte Vecchio, the most photographed bridge in Italy. Stop off en route to see Michelangelo’s David at the Accademia Gallery. The Santa Maria Novella train station is just 20 minutes away by foot, or if your bags are heavy you can jump on a bus that will take 15 minutes door-to-door.

Rooms and Dorms

We have both mixed and female-only dorms and all beds have personal touches like your own light, a USB and international adaptor, free bedding and towels. Each dorm also has lockers for your luggage. Our bathrooms have hairdryers and you’ll get a vanity pack with bathroom essentials like shampoo and shower gel. Ask for a dorm with a balcony, and soak up la dolce vita from your room.

Extras and activities

Our friendly team at the travel desk will give you a free city map and get you up to speed on the best way to see our city. We can also organise tours out into the countryside, where you can taste some fine red Chianti (salute!) or visit the nearby cities of Siena and Pisa. We have a self-service laundry area with washers and dryers if you're running out of clean clothes, and a communal kitchen so you can try your hand at Italian cooking.

Receptionists Lisa, Elena, and particularly Sonia were super helpful and friendly...even saving me some Euros in several of my excursions. Beds were a bit rough and rickety, while cleaning agents could smell overwhelming in small spaces, but a good location, good price, and free food and WI-FI all day more than made up for it. I would return here!

Rooms were stylish (especially for a hostel) and clean! Each bed has a big locker in the room, enough to fit a carry-on. We stayed in the girls-only dormitories, which are blocked off from the other rooms, which gave the hostel an extra safe feeling. Good breakfast selection and from 14.00-19.00 snack and cakes are set out for the guests, which is incl. in the price! About 20min away from everything by foot. Tended to see older travellers (>30) than usual and lots of solo travellers!

I really enjoyed this hostel everything was perfect! The only thing I would say could be better is that they could put bigger table in the dinning area so the people can meet more people.

I loved staying here, the location is great, they have food all the time and you feel at home. The staffs are very nice and helpful, special mention to Sonia :) They have good breakfast, snacks all day and dinner, rooms are cleaned and beds are made everyday. I highly recommend this hostel. If I had one thing to say it would be the toilets which many people used and weren’t clean always. My room was with two showers but not a toilet. Overall one of the best hostel I have stayed so far.

This hostel is really good value for $!! Location is a bit further out from city center BUT very nicely located on main avenue; which is walkable to all major sites / museums etc. Staff were extremely helpful helping me find a room for an extended stay & just giving me info about everything else to see / get around in florence. Def would try again. The breakfast and dinner buffet are no joke! They’re worth it for sure & everything was clean and well maintained.

This hostel was exceptionally clean. They had good facilities for laundry, eating, cooking, showering. The women’s section had a shared bathroom as well as a private one for all ladies. The room sizes were nice with a balcony. The breakfast had a nice selection, dinner could have had more salads as many people seem to have eaten the dinner.

Nice hostel. 15 min walk up one street from the city centre - safe and decent neighbourhood. Slightly anti-social vibe in the common/kitchen area - but friends can be made! Great free breakfast. Free dinner is a nice bonus (quantity over quality). Hostel needs more windows (sorry, I know the old building obviously makes this not possible!).

Having the girls dorms separate was nice! The food was pretty good. Staff was kind. Beds are close together. Bathrooms are really nice. More of a place to put your head for a night or two, than a place that feels like home.

    Very Good

There isn't much atmosphere - no common area besides the dining room, maybe I just didn't spend enough time there. Security isn't great, the lockers don't actually lock properly, nor do the doors to the women's area, at least from what I can tell. The door to the room also didn't lock automatically. Also the top bunks in the middle of the room only had railing on one side. However, the bed was comfy and the breakfast is great, location is good too.

Probably would not stay here again. It was great having free breakfast and dinner but the dining/lounge area and dish washing area was always so dirty. Bathrooms were ok, sometimes could get very messy. It was 20 minute walk or more to any of the attractions but the neighborhood was safe and full of students. Beds were so close together it was a bit uncomfortable, and the rooms were extremely warm. Super thin walls so you could hear everything.
