Absolutely amazing place: sparkling clean, wonderful staff and very well located. I went there for one night, decided to stay for much longer.

I really loved this hostels layout. The lounge/kitchen was really well designed for meeting new people. The showers were great (also the free razor was the best free thing I've received in months while traveling). I really loved the all female floor and despite it being a 24 person dorm it wasn't noisy or crowded. I'm iffy on if I like the number of cameras that are everywhere here but it doesn't negate the fact that the rest of this place is amazing.

This hostel was awesome. The beds were little private cubes with a good pull-down curtain, so even though we were staying in a 20+ person dorm, it felt totally private. We didn't meet anyone in the common space, but the kitchen and couch area was super nice, very clean, and had lots of games. The laundry was also super convenient. And the hostel is located about 15 min. straight shot walk from a JR station, and a short walk from the Peace Park and A-bomb museum and lots of good restaurants.

Kawate-ya was really good overall. The set-up takes a little getting used to, since the showers and lockers are not on the same floor as the mixed dorm, while the toilets are. Not a big deal. The lounge was a really nice hang-out spot and had a well-equipped kitchen. Pillows were pretty hard. Quiet neighborhood but easy walk to the sites, the main tram line and a train station.

The lounge at this hostel is really cool with lots of areas to sit and mingle, and the little soccer game is hilarious to play. The only thing I would add is having bathrooms on the shower floor but other than that, amazing place to stay and very affordable!

Stayed 2 nights in the mixed dorm, overall great experience, one of my favorite. Some things in particular stood out: 1) Towels are free, and you can change it daily 2) Lockers are of varying sizes, was able to fit my 40L backpack easily into the large ones 3) Location is a ways from Hakata Station, but if you have a JR pass Yokogawa Station is ~10 minute walk 4) Capsules are spacious 5) Showers are eco-friendly, reduces water usage 6) Check-out is a breeze, nothing to return to front desk

Personally, this was a slightly disappointing stay based on the good reviews. The location was convenient for the Peace Park and museum, and everything but the rooms itself didn't really have any security and the beds were the most uncomfortable of anywhere I stayed in Japan (7 other cities). It was really hard to sleep as well because the curtains for the capsules are translucent and the lights never turn off so light was pouring in the whole night. Fine stay, but wouldn't recommend
