The staff in this hostel is great, super welcoming and kind. They make an extra effort to make the solo traveler feel at home. As for ambiance there isn’t that much for a solo traveler, but loved my stay. The communal area is nice, and there’s a kitchen which makes life easier. Somebody mentioned there aren’t many food options. That’s not true - maybe you won’t find a McDonald’s very close but there are some lovely local spots nearby that are more affordable than a lot of the tourist dense areas

This hostel was wonderful, our beds were especially comfortable compared to the other hostels we had stayed at in Japan. The staff were also super helpful with all our questions. A very friendly community vibe in the common areas and plenty of information for time in Kyoto.

The hostel is in a great location and takes around 10 minutes to walk from the main rail station, this helps as some of the attractions are a train/bus journey away. There are some suggested sight seeing routes to take on the notice board which I would recommend. There is free coffee and kitchen facilities. The hostel is super clean and tidy. A decent sized common area and reasonably priced drinks and snacks are available from from reception. Helpful friendly staff too.

Showers had AMAZING water pressure!! The lockers were too small to fit backpacks into, but there was plenty of room at the end of the bunks to put your backpacks, so we just locked up our valuables. The crowd was a little older and there wasn’t much of a social atmosphere, but we travelled most of the day so it was fine

The hostel was great, clean, cosy rooms, great common area and facilities. If you're looking for a great base to see Kyoto then this is it. Only draw back is the atmosphere. It's quieter than most hostels I've stayed at which isn't a bad thing if you're in a group, but for solo travellers it could be dependent on luck as to how easily you will meet other travellers at the hostel. Overall great for groups maybe a 7/10 for solo travellers. Also the bikes for rental at 1400y for the day was awesome
