Property Description

Mamallena on the Beach is a traditional hostel located right on the beach in this traditional fisherman village. We were the first hostel in town and we are excited to see how tourism is growing and helping the people of the village. The hostel is basic, as you would expect, but we do have 10 rooms with a combination of privates and dorms, both with and without AC. Right on the beach is our own Bruja's Playa Bar serving juices and cocktails, with plenty of hammocks and lounges to relax in. Walk a few minutes in either direction and you'll find even more secluded areas than ours. We can organise trips and activities for you as well, but most people just want to come and relax on the beach. There is also great seafood available in the local beach restaurants. Our super friendly local staff can help you with anything you need.

Rincon del Mar is a small fishing village in the department of Sucre, Colombia around 13km from ‘San Onofre’ 2.5 hours south of Cartagena along the Caribbean coast. This is a great location to stop at if you are heading from Cartagena to Medellin and absolutely perfect for a few days rest and relaxation before hitting the big cities again.

Our rooms are basic but cozy, the dorms have no more tan 7 beds and can fit only 7 people, and privates rooms have a double bed and a single bed. Bathrooms are shared but are plenty of them. Our front door opens to the beach where you´ll find our bar and plenty of hammocks and chairs to relax in the sun. We don´t serve food as we like to support the local people by giving them business. We have an open air kitchen and there is a restaurant right next door that will deliver food to your spot on the beach. Tours to the San Bernardo islands are also easily arranged and that a beautiful spot to spend a few hours. For those of you who are a bit more adventurous we can also around horse riding through the local farmlands and along the beach. Taking a walk through Rincon del Mar is an adventure in itself, just exploring the town and meeting the friendly locals.
Come visit us, everyone is waiting!

Excellent hostel, excellent location. Really sweet staff. Could easily lay on the beach here for days. I liked the various tours they offered. I took the San Bernardo tour and it was well organized and the owner even handed out sweets to the guests one afternoon. Also the restaurant next door serves the BEST garlic lobster!

A good cheap hostel, nice staff work there. Very clean. The private rooms have air con but its turned on at 6pm and on all night until morning. It got REALLY cold at night but they don't give you the remote to turn it off or less cool.. There was also a mouse that came into our room, and ran out, it was big, but its a beach hut so I guess to be expected. There are a lot of accommodation around as well. But for the price this place was fine.

It's basic but with everything you need and it's literally on the beach, what more could you want! No induction on arrival whatsoever and Sonia seemed a little unwelcoming initially but after 5 days we got a smile out of her and I dare say she even liked us... Was all part of the charm and we loved her! Good laundry service, bar advertised but non existant but it's not far to get some beers in. Local people drink and party all day. Great town we loved it!

Definitely recommended as a place to stay in Rincon. Pretty chill, rooms are decent and the owner is super friendly. The staff member who works there always seems super cranky though, and it looks like every question is too much..

Rincon del Mar is a nice place to visit. It's a very sweet village with some backpackers, not touristy at all. Hostel Mamallena was cool, but my friend had 300,000 pesos taken from our room. The room we were staying in had a lock, but it is very easy to open the window, reach your hand in and unlock the door. Also, if you leave the key at the front desk, it's really easy for anyone to grab it off the wall and go into your room. There was another guest who says she was missing money.

Nice enough place, but something was missing in terms of creating a cool social environment. I think if they included breakfast that might be all it takes to connect people.

The only good things I can say about this place was its location on the waters edge and surprisingly the wifi was good. Was staying at mamallena in cartegena which was a good hostel and they recommended it but was let down. Hostelworld only advertised this hostel aswell but there are plenty more hostels along the beach which looked better. Shower was bad the room and bathroom hadn't been cleaned when I arrived. Very average place definitely look at other options.

I booked a shared room with a bathroom but the shower, taps and toilet did not work. I paid for two nights but only stayed for one nights , and went to a much much nicer (and much cheaper hostel a few doors down- i think its called Boutique Hotel), couldnt find it on googlemaps. No lockers and the doors were left unlocked. The hostel has a curfew.I rated it it low on location but since the town is small all hostels are well located! The only positive is that the hostel accepts credit card.
