Stayed with my wife for five nights in a private room. The air conditioner was fantastic, and the staff were as helpful as you’d like them to be. A maximum capacity of twelve guests, I believe, but we never had to wait for either of the two showers or toilets. Complimentary simple breakfast fare was a nice touch, and it was convenient that they allowed us to leave our luggage (in a closet on the main floor) past our check-out time. No complaints to speak of, would recommend.

Hostel Mundo was amazing! This was by far the cheapest private room I could find, and it had everything I could need (space for luggage, a small desk/chair, a futon mattress, etc.) It was also in a very traditional Japanese house (i.e. wooden, steep stairs, tatami floors, a low ceiling, etc.) The staff was very nice and I had great evening conversations with them and the other guests. They also had great local recommendations.

Excellent stay at this cute little hostel in Kyoto. We stayed in a room with a more traditional Japanese layout instead of traditional beds. The mats were soft and extra blankets were provided in case we got cold at night. Only small note would be it is quite a climb down the stairs if you need to use the restroom at night so would not recommend for older travelers or travelers who have difficulty climbing stairs. Bonus: the hostel also offered a very nice and simple free breakfast.

The hostel is located in a traditional Japanese style house. Nice facilities, free breakfast. (At least) one of the private twin rooms is a Japanese style room, meaning that you don't sleep on a regular mattress. This was not clearly mentioned while booking the room.

This hostel is in the middle of nowhere You have to walk alot to get anywhere. It is over a kilometer from any subway. The bus stop is about a 5 minute walk but not every bus goes there. It was an absolute pain getting around plus it was in summer heat. The staff were the most pleasant staff of anywhere I've ever been but due to its location I don't know if I will stay again Also if you are tall or big it is difficult to get around the hostel. Very small and narrow halls.

Pros: - Cheap - Authentic? older japanese style home - 2 toast & 1 boiled egg (max) Cons: - Narrow hallway for washroom (like you might have to turn sideways) - Freezing (no heat) - If you stay in the female 6bed dorm you can hear the common room as its right outside (I could hear the staff) theres also music playing in the common room - not sure if sheets washed. I found some hair on the bed that wasnt mine when I checked in. Wouldn't book again. Its cheap if you don't care where you stay.
