Idocoro was a great value, basic hostel. Great location with basic facilities and would be a good choice for travellers who will be out exploring for most of the time. Atmosphere was very quiet and staff were helpful.

Cool hostel, close to the city centre. The dorm beds are like capsules, quite spacious and comfortable! We enjoyed our stay

Nice hostel overall. Especially good in quiet times. However, you can hear normal conversations in other rooms when you are in a dorm. Highly likely to compromise your sleep.

a great hostel in every way besides the fact that there is zero atmosphere - we didn’t meet one other traveller in the 4 days we stayed! very clean, brilliant staff, good facilities and the location is fine.

The thing I hated the most is that it is not well furnished. Staff is good hostel was neat and clean. But the floor was without flooring. The wood work had no polish. Really disappointed

Felt like a cubby house. Free towels, easy to maintain temperature in the room. Amazing sound proofing.

We arrived days after a massive typhoon, so there was a bit of damage. We went up to the terrace but it seemed like all of the furniture was torn apart. We stayed on the 3rd floor, which looked unfinished. The carpet was pulled up and the rooms/bunks were made of cheap plywood-a complete fire hazard. In 2 days there, we saw only one other group. Besides that, it was a really strange ghost town. I only saw one person during reception hours, and he was often not at the front desk. It was strange.

I hate leaving bad reviews, especially when the staff were nice but this hostel was a bit of a disappointment. There was hardly ever staff in the bar/reception area. There was a microwave but no fridge or kitchen space so you have to go out for all meals. The rooms are TINY, we had 3 people in a 4 bed room - only enough space for one person to open luggage at a time. Beds pretty uncomfortable and unfinished bunks - visible nails and splinters. Nowhere to leave luggage when you arrive or leave.

Idocoro is in a decent part of town, near a subway station so you can nip around to further out places like nara if you want to as well. The room we had was a double bunk bed arrangement, which was efficient but very soulless. We also had to wait a while to check in, and on weekdays there often wasn't a staff member on reception. We also only saw three other guests in our four nights, making for a very odd atmosphere. Great for one night or a business person, but not if you want to meet others.
