Overview

Imano Tokyo Hostel is a peaceful place located in the Shinjuku district of Tokyo. We've got a lively bar with a daily happy hour, as well as events like takoyaki parties. We'll translate that for you: takoyaki is Japanese street food made from battered octopus pieces. Trust us, it's really tasty. You'll be able to get to know fellow travellers in our café or common room. Make your friends jealous by posting a photo of your traditional sake (rice wine) here, using our free Wi-Fi. Oh, and we almost forgot – we have a hot tub!

Location

The hostel is about 90 minutes from Narita International Airport. You'll take the Skyliner shuttle, then the metro to either Shinjuku Station or Higashi-Shinjuku Station – we're a 5-minute walk from both. Our neighbourhood is full of cool bars where you can do a spot of people watching. Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, a huge park with three themed gardens, is a 12-minute walk away, while Meiji Shrine, located in a forest with 100,000 trees, is around 20 minutes by metro.

Rooms and Dorms

We'll give you free linen, free shampoo, conditioner and soap, plus disposable slippers in all rooms to save you cash (and space in your case). You can hire a towel from us, and also buy earplugs and toothbrushes. Our rooms are female-only dorms or male-only dorms, unless you're renting a private room. Settle down in your bunk, draw the privacy curtain and switch on the reading light to catch up on reading. Phone out of battery? There's a power outlet for your bed, too.

Extras and activities

Take the elevator down to the café/bar for a buffet breakfast (at a small charge) – we alternate continental style and Japanese food. Grab a free city map and plan your shopping trip to famous department store Isetan – and if you need any tips, just ask the friendly staff at our 24-hour reception. Our hostel has all the extras like air con, and a handy laundry service.

Good location - near major Shinjuku stations, but far enough from Sjinjuku's major attractions, therefore you won't be disturbed by the neon lights and crowd noises outside. Very clean and well-staffed. Was confused on how to work out the air-conditioner (because there wasn 't an english translation). But the mattress was quite thin though. Not sure if it's a Japanese thing, but it felt like I was lying on plank wood. Put the comforter underneath you, it greatly helps.

Second time staying at Imano. Would certainly come back again. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is excellent for socializing with other guests. Location is perfect for getting to shinjuku station, golden gai, and kabukicho.

Great location, excellent vibe. Staff was nice and their cafe was great. Due to this, it was easy to meet people in the common area. So good for solo travelers! Personal belongings lockers were a bit smaller than I expected. The AC has to be kept at a min of 22 deg C which made it very uncomfortable especially because my bed was the farthest from it.

a wonderful place to stay— the location is SO ideal for getting around. very clean and comfortable and fulfilled our needs! we didn’t find it to be very social, but it could have just been the batch of people staying there. the workers are also super friendly and helpful!

Not much of an atmosphere unfortunately. Maybe I just got unlucky there at a bad time but even during happy hour at the bar maybe 3-5 different people all seperate and keeping to themselves. No lockers for bigger items but this seems to be a common trend in Japan. Mattress definitely the thinnest of the ones I’ve slept on in Japan. Don’t get me wrong this is not a negative review, I really enjoyed my time there and the location was AWESOME, just pointing out some things for future travellers

Quite cramped sleeping area, limited space to put luggage. Common area is very close to dorms and often noisy. Good location and friendly staff though.

We found the facility and location to be average and our interactions with the staff to be subpar. The staff did not communicate well over email regarding a change in travel plans and was unclear. The other visitors at the hostel were not friendly. Our stay was not as pleasant or social as we had hoped. There were many vacant spots in the facility which is pretty telling. I would recommend staying in another hostel in Tokyo.

Staff wasn’t clear in modifying our reservation - contacted them before but could not get our request accommodated. Additionally, everyone at the hostel kept to themselves and the atmosphere was not very friendly.

Extremely poor provision of services for the cost of stay. There was no induction at all to the hostel or facilities available, rooms were tiny with no room to put your suitcase, mattresses were just a few centremetres thick, and all basic services that you would think would have been included were at an additional cost. This is a low budget hostel charging medium to high budget rates.
