Dive straight into New Orleans at India House Backpackers – we're the only hostel in the city with a swimming pool! There's also a deck for sunbathing and a stage where you can catch some live music, because what's a trip to the world's jazz capital without a jam session? Before the party gets started, check out our open-air kitchen where we serve (note: very tasty) hot breakfasts and low-priced evening meals. There's even another kitchen indoors for you to cook in.

We're in Mid City, so you'll reach the famous French Quarter with an 11-minute streetcar ride followed by a 15-minute walk. The hostel's a 30-minute wander from City Park, where you’ll find the New Orleans Museum of Art, an outdoor statue garden and gondolas. We're also surrounded by awesome local pubs. Endymion, the biggest Mardi Gras parade, passes in front of the hostel on Canal Street – a sight not to be missed! To get here, we're a 45-minute bus ride (look out for the E2) from Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.

We've got hairdryers and steam irons at the front desk if you're planning a night out at the dance clubs on buzzing Bourbon Street.

Extras and activities

India House was great! The staff was wonderful and very hospitable—Devin, Sydney, and Rachel went out of their way to provide us guests with food and drinks. And their usual cook Lisa was so kind and made delicious food. It’s clean, comfortable, and very welcoming here.

My stay in New Orleans wouldn’t have been the same without India House. Great group of staff, especially Rachel. I always felt safe, there was a decent kitchen to cook my food, and the party went on all night and day.

This place is the best hostel I've been to in the states, and some of the employees are really special gems of people. It's got an artist down to earth vibe, the daily cleaning ladies keep everything pretty nice compared to many hostel of the style I've been to. The pool is clean and they provide things like art materials and games for you free time. My favourite thing was the yoga class that an employee (Ophelia) taught. Planning to go again for sure 👍

I really enjoyed my first visit to New Orleans. Lisa and Joe were very helpful and answered all of my questions. I left my phone in the common room overnight and it was there upon return. India House is a very special place and hope to stay again in the future. Very safe neighborhood and just a quick trolley ride to the action. Also - great laundry facilities. Highly recommended!

They have done a good job making improvements since I stayed months back. Every hostel has its pros and cons. This is a very vibrant, unique, and social atmosphere. I like that the staff feel like friends from the get-go, and offer activities to go and see the city in a variety of different ways. The meals offered are always 🔥🔥🔥 for just 5 bucks. Free coffee, too. If you're not making new friends at the India House, or having a great time in New Orleans overall, you're doing something wrong.

India House was a great place to stay for our first trip to New Orleans. Taking the trolley/Uber into any part of the city was easy, and their activities board had daily listings of art, music, and group activities which was awesome and provided this community feel. The staff was really friendly, informative and helpful. One thing not listed on their website is that they do offer both laundry and detergent, as well as home cooked meals and a 24/7 check in. Would recommend to any friend.
