Overview

International Budget Hostel gets you right into the heart of Amsterdam, but its spot by a quiet canal brings the best of both worlds. We're not short on atmosphere here – you'll be staying in a former 17th century warehouse (it'll look fantastic on your social feeds, we promise). Take a minute in our snug lounge, which is open 24 hours and faces the canal for ultimate people watching. Grab yourself a treat from the vending machine and catch a movie or sports game on TV with your new travel pals.

Location

You’ll find us in Leidseplein Square, surrounded by hip cafés, bars and restaurants. This is the most famous area of Amsterdam for nightlife, so hit up some happy hour specials to give your wallet a break. We’re well-connected when it comes to transport links, too – the Leidseplein bus station is just a 3-minute walk away, and you can jump on to reach the airport in 30 minutes. If you're craving some culture, we’re just 15 minutes by foot from the Van Gogh Museum and a 13-minute stroll from the Anne Frank House.

Rooms and Dorms

When it comes to rooms, choose a triple or quad private if you’re travelling in a group. Not only do they have twinkling city views, but also quirky touches like railway clocks and suitcase-bedecked wallpaper. Mixed dorms feature ultra-cool exposed brick and let you get to know your fellow travellers. Linen's included, and there are showers and toilets in every hallway so you won’t need to queue (hooray!).

Extras and activities

Need travel tips? Pop down to our 24-hour reception desk to ask the friendly staff your questions. We can recommend activities or sort out a bike rental so you can explore the city like a local. There’s free Wi-Fi throughout the hostel and free computers so you can Skype your family and friends (and make them jealous, obviously).

Honestly, my friend and I had an amazing time here and would stay there again! Yes it may not be the nicest hostel in Amsterdam, but it was definitely one to remember and worth the value. The room is small, but we never spent much time there. The bar was lively and the guests were young a fun. We spent the whole night drinking with other guests, which was great to say the least. The best part was the location. It is close to most of the major sites and the everything is within walking distance.

Adv : the location is really good but I think u will have to get the transportation tickets so I really don’t recommend to be at the center as 12 mins from IBH to center the same as 30 mins from where u stay alittle far to the center . The girl receptionist is really amazing . Dis : the ladder is really really terrible . I can recommend anyone not to take that hostel because of that s*** . NO SECURITY at all . No lockers No charger blogger at my bed .

Staff were incredibly rude on arrival. Forced us to pay cash only because the staff member firstly did not believe my friend held a Dutch bank card because he “wasn’t Dutch”. Then after 5 minutes of negotiation she took the card and said it was a fake and we were trying scam her. The bed were nice but the cupboards to store our stuff were all broken/dirty. The cleaner in the hostel had her baby daughter with her which seemed really unsafe. There were hidden costs which we weren’t informed.

Hotter than the desert and had no fan or AC on top of that we weren’t aloud to have water in our room so we were dying of heat and dehydration. Also please note that en-suite does not include a toilet.

Hostel smells like smoke. Be warned: the smoking area is right next to the main lobby. Several people live long-term there and work for Uber eats... Rooms smell like weed despite a no smoking policy inside the dorm rooms. Stairs are very steep to get up. Staff did their very best to accommodate my allergy but would not refund me for my stay. This is definitely a budget choice (though location is great) and would not recommend staying here if you are allergic to or hate the smell of smoke.

From the start it was sketchy. The inside was quite dirty (wrapper and trash openly in the rooms and smoking areas, toilet areas floor super wet (with what I don't know), etc. With the new governmental fees on tourism, the prices should be much less than what they charge. It would definitely be easier to just get an airbnb or find someone to stay with. Feels like anyone can get in and out, etc.
