Overview

International Budget Hostel gets you right into the heart of Amsterdam, but its spot by a quiet canal brings the best of both worlds. We're not short on atmosphere here – you'll be staying in a former 17th century warehouse (it'll look fantastic on your social feeds, we promise). Take a minute in our snug lounge, which is open 24 hours and faces the canal for ultimate people watching. Grab yourself a treat from the vending machine and catch a movie or sports game on TV with your new travel pals.

Location

You’ll find us in Leidseplein Square, surrounded by hip cafés, bars and restaurants. This is the most famous area of Amsterdam for nightlife, so hit up some happy hour specials to give your wallet a break. We’re well-connected when it comes to transport links, too – the Leidseplein bus station is just a 3-minute walk away, and you can jump on to reach the airport in 30 minutes. If you're craving some culture, we’re just 15 minutes by foot from the Van Gogh Museum and a 13-minute stroll from the Anne Frank House.

Rooms and Dorms

When it comes to rooms, choose a triple or quad private if you’re travelling in a group. Not only do they have twinkling city views, but also quirky touches like railway clocks and suitcase-bedecked wallpaper. Mixed dorms feature ultra-cool exposed brick and let you get to know your fellow travellers. Linen's included, and there are showers and toilets in every hallway so you won’t need to queue (hooray!).

Extras and activities

Need travel tips? Pop down to our 24-hour reception desk to ask the friendly staff your questions. We can recommend activities or sort out a bike rental so you can explore the city like a local. There’s free Wi-Fi throughout the hostel and free computers so you can Skype your family and friends (and make them jealous, obviously).

We stayed in the 8 bed mixed-dorm for 4 nights and I was beyond pleased with this place. The staff were all so friendly and welcoming, the facilities were always clean, the room was a bit cramped and nowhere near luxurious but it did the job. Met some pretty amazing people at this place, pretty damn awesome smoking room too. Thanks guys :-)

This is an option for world travellers who do not want to spend a whole fortune in this unpleasant and overpriced city that stinks of drugs on every corner. In this high and narrow cabinet for storing people, you get your little drawer to put your head, legs, and the other stuff in between inside of it and that's about all that can be said about the site. And the staff will be helpful, nice, and friendly to make you feel good about it. Thanks, I have apeciated this option.

Nice hostel, in a beautiful spot. Very clean. My room(mixed dorm of 6 people) was not that spacious but there were lockers . The bath tube was tiny in the room, and no space to hang towels and clothes in there, also no main door in the bathroom place , just the bath tube door, which was a bit uncomfortable. A bit pricey, but I stayed there during ADE days, and it was the cheapest.

We had the room with three beds. It was a bit noisy due to the radiator (or something similar) in the room. Bathroom was tiny but clean.

Nice staff, great location. Would have liked some cushions in the smoking room but not too bad. There was a kettle which was nice. A very basic place. Made some great friends.

The place was in a great location and probably one of the cheapest places to stay in central Amsterdam. However, it didn't have any atmosphere, as apart from the smoking room there was no common area. Bathrooms and bedrooms were clean. It would have been nice to have a charger point by every bed (there were only 4 for 8 beds) as this is a standard in most hostels, even budget ones.

I stayed in a four bedroom room with three of my friends. The room was nice, had a beautiful view of a a canal, and we all had full size lockers for our things. My biggest complaint is the slamming doors.... there’s no way to quietly shut any door, so I was kept up at night due to all the constant door slams. Also, the showers need some hooks for towels and a shelf for clothes.

Beds were pretty average and security wasn’t that great. You need your own lock but you could easily pull the hinge off the door anyway. The smokers room makes the whole hostel smell of weed. Location is in a pretty part of town which is nice. A bit quieter to the hustle and bustle.

When we arrived we rang the bell and had to wait awhile before getting let in. The stairs are very steep to get up with your bags/luggage, more like a ladder. The common area is cramped, just a long skinny area. The smoking room does have a good set up. There is no kitchen, just a sink and a microwave. They supply plastic plates, cups, and utensils. The room we had was musty smelling, the light was dim, and the lockers are not very secure.

Be aware the pictures are not accurate! The whole building smelled of smoke. The two bathrooms on the entire floor were tiny and unkempt. For what I was paying I expected much more! There was one private shower per floor. The beds were uncomfortable and the linens were questionable. I did not feel comfortable leaving anything during the day, even in a locker. The best part of this stay was the location, which also could have been better, with a 20 min walk to the Rijksmuseum and Anne Frank House
