Overview

Rest your head at our fun and friendly International Student Center in the Upper West Side of New York’s buzzing Manhattan. We’ve got a cosy lounge area where you can relax with a DVD after a hectic day exploring, or chat to fellow travellers about your Big Apple experience. We’ve got a guest kitchen with stove, microwaves and fridges, so it's easy to keep empty stomachs happy. There's free Wi-Fi throughout our hostel, meaning you can Skype your friends or plan your activities in the city from your bunk.

Location

We’re in one of the safest and friendliest neighbourhoods of New York, less than a 5-minute walk from Central Park and the nearest subway station, 86th Street. From there you can easily reach some of New York’s best sights, with the Rockefeller Centre just 17 minutes away, and the famous shopping along 5th Avenue just 25 minutes on foot. From JFK Airport, take the Airtrain to Howard Beach subway station, then hop on the A train towards Manhattan, change to the C or B train at 59th Street, and get off at 86th. It'll take you about 90-120 minutes altogether.

Rooms and Dorms

We’ve got female-only and mixed dorms, some of which have en-suites for that little extra privacy. We provide free linen, and you can rent towels from the front desk, so no need to stuff one into your already-bursting backpack. There's air con in every room, perfect for hot NYC summer nights. If you need a locker, they’re downstairs in the common area and good news – they'll fit a large backpack.

Extras and activities

Don’t forget to take one of our free maps so you can get around with ease (without the roaming charges!). We’re youth-focused, so you’ll only find other 18-35-year-olds to hang with here. There’s no curfew in the city that never sleeps, so once you’ve got your key for a $10 deposit, you can come and go as you like.

Great time, great location and nice employees. Nothing too fancy but a brilliant value for money for people without the need for the luxurious.

The hostel is very neat and proper. Only, the hostel does not organize anything, such as a pub quiz or a pub-crawl or a bike ride. If you are looking for a hostel to meet lots of strangers during fun activities this might not be it. However, if you want to have casual chats, visit the city on your own or with your friends, it is perfect.

an 'old school' hostel that has a lot of personality, you have to make your own bed. The Matresses are comfortable. It's true there are no ladders up to the bunks and my top bunk had no guard at the side which felt a little scary. The lounge feels warm and has some large fans that help but also make it harder to socialize as they are so loud. I woulden't say it was super relaxing place to hangout. The location worked for me! Overall I would say not bad, just about worth the money!

It's a lovely little hostel and the location is great - convenient connection to the subway and central park right next door. Unfortunately, we could barely get rest at night because it was very warm and for some reason, the A/C remained off. People started occupying the sofas of the commons to get rest. Also, furniture meets only minimum standards. There were no shelves so we were forced to put everything on the floor, lockers could barely fit a backpack and beds were without ladders.

Terrible experience, really run down place. I was placed on the top bunk which had no ladder and very unstable structure, it was very dangerous. Suitcases are also left in the lobby since there are no elevators/space. Stairs are lopsided..? Towels are also not provided, no shampoo/soap, barely any hot water for showers–I’m not sure what I’m paying for in this hostel as it’s location isn’t ideal either. Oh, and there are only two bathrooms for 10-15 people on the floor.. highly NOT recommend.

WiFi doesn't work in the bedrooms, only in the common area. You must leave your suitcase in reception as you are not allowed to bring them to your room, reception locks between 11 pm and 8 am so you don't have access to your belongings if you're home late from a show or night out. No lockers in bedrooms. Staff were helpful in terms of how to get to the airport but unhelpful in terms of tips on walking tours, cycling tours, and information on New York's attractions. No planned hostel nights out.

No laundry service. No breakfast provided. Rooms were 10 to a shower/toilet therefore very busy. No towel provided. No universal soap/shampoo provided. Air-con was broken during the height of summer. Had to keep luggage downstairs in reception as only tiny lockers provided downstairs, very poor security. No lift so if you have mobility issues do not visit. No tours or activities organised WiFi is poor The place discriminates based on age, only 18-35 year olds allowed!
