Property Description

Ivy is an Australian and American-owned hostel, one of few still open for business in Medellin throughout COVID-19. As experienced backpackers ourselves, we strive to incorporate the characteristics that we find so important in hostels while avoiding all of those obvious don'ts. Here you will find a chill yet sociable environment in a converted mansion with all of the creature comforts of home. Looking for a TV room with Netflix? Yep. Bar? Yep. While plenty of space to socially distance if you desire? Yep. We’re not a party hostel, but you can find good times, forge new friendships in the bar or in one of our common areas, and then bank some solid sleep once the party is over. If you are like many of our guests, you will find yourself becoming part of the Ivy family and extending your stay with us! The hostel is located in a clean and comfortable 9-bedroom, 7-bathroom mansion, including 3 private rooms and 6 dorms varying in size from 3 to 8 beds. Hostel features include:

- HOT showers
- Solid 30mb wifi connection throughout the house to keep tinder swiping
- Well-stocked kitchen with everything you need to whip up that award-winning souffle
- TV room with cable AND Netflix, with what is likely the most comfortable couch in Medellin (affectionately named “Harvey”). Just try to pry yourself up once you get settled in!
- Open back terrace with HAMMOCK and retractable awning for those rainy dayzzz
- Fully stocked bar and home of our house drink, the Poison Ivy ;)
- Free use of our 2 guest computers
- Laundry services
- Lockers for securing your valuables
- Free on-site parking (including secured parking for motorcycles behind a locked gate)
- Gas grill to BBQ up a storm over a few cold ones
- Friendly and helpful staff to assist you with tours and transportation (and info on whatever else you may be looking for in Medellin or on your travels through Central & South America)
- Free mediocre quality banta / laughs at reception, and nominal charge for high quality version of the same

What “don'ts” will you not find at Ivy (that we've experienced elsewhere)? Blaring music/sleep deprivation until 3 am, annoying “nickle and dime” charges to print boarding passes, rude staff, list of 200 strict rules to follow (you are adults, afterall), having to make up your own bed in the dark when you arrive at midnight (we do that for you before you arrive), cramped bathroom stalls requiring pretzel-twisting yoga maneuvers to pull up your drawers, etc.

Ivy Hostel is located in a safe, leafy suburb outside of the hectic party district, but with convenient access to everything the city has to offer. This is why we can offer you a great nights sleep, while the party district is only a 5-minute cab ride and the price of a late night slice of pizza away. Ivy offers excellent access to Medellin's metro system; only a 5-10 minute (and relatively flat) walk to the nearby Aguacatala station will propel you throughout the city to many of the tourist hot spots and local neighborhoods. We’re a 5-minute walk to 2 major grocery stores (one of which is open 24-hours) and 2 major shopping malls, and a 10-minute walk to the EAFIT University language center - the largest in the city (offering 2- and 4-week programs). Additionally, we have convenient access to the growing yet still authentically Colombian sector of Envigado either by foot, taxi, or bus. And if you happen to stay with us over the weekend, don't forget to take advantage of a “ciclovía,” in which the south-bound lanes of the beautiful Avenida Poblado (located almost next to the hostel) are blocked off to traffic and filled with walkers, joggers, bikers, and the occasional rollerblader. This occurs on most Sundays and “puentes” (one of the numerous Colombian holidays that fall on a Monday).

I love this hostel so much. You get a great balance between a fun atmosphere whilst still getting a good nights sleep. The beds are comfortable and the whole hostel is constantly being cleaned. The breakfast is great and the kitchen well equipped, and the tv room is lovely. The staff here are amazing and make you feel so at home (Victoria I’m talking to you!). The location is near a huge supermarket and the metro. recommend getting a deluxe dorm as they have their own bathrooms & luggage storage

My friends and I LOVED our stay at Ivy! The staff is so friendly - shoutout to the true queen Victoria! It’s a smaller hostel, which allows for you to really connect with everyone there and have a great time! Highly recommend this hostel! Again, I need to mention how amazing Vitoria is! She’s so friendly, helpful and fun - it really added yo our experience while traveling!

We stayed in a private room with attached bathroom and TV and it was the perfect place to end our trip. There were 4 distinct places to hang out (bar, living room, Netflix room and another room w chairs), kitchen was nice and big, and breakfast was eggs, toast, fruit. Location was close to metro but did feel a little removed, like we were in the middle of the suburbs, which was fine with us ultimately but some people might not like.

Probably the best value-for-money hostel, you'll ever come across. For the price I paid, I was worried it was going to be a s***hole, but I couldn't have been more wrong. It was clean, had a really nice atmosphere, and the staff were so friendly and helpful.

Great hostel. Atmosphere was really chilled, with some partying as well. Wifi very good. Big kitchen and fridge, lots of cooking stuff. Cleaners cleaned every day. Backyard and bar are very cool. Netflix in the comfortable loungeroom. Covid procedures in place. Staff and guests were a lot of fun. Definitely not the easiest place for sleep, but didn't bother me too much. Had a great time at Ivy.

This is a great place for a solo traveler to meet other friendly people. Really liked the vibe at this hostel. Negatives would be the location, it’s pretty far walking from any good restaurants and bars. Must take cabs. Although in a very safe neighborhood next to the mall. I think the bunk beds could be better (less rickety and bigger).

Booked a private room for myself and my partner. It did the job. Had issues with the toilet but was otherwise fine. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The other hostel guests were also fairly social and respectful of common spaces. It's about a mile from the heart of Poblado so it's not ideally located, but I had a great time there.

Solid hostel that's definitely social and good timey. Beds might be a little stiff, but for $7 USD, how much can anyone reasonably complain? (There's a pandemic going on; the fact that anyone can enjoy anything is actually kind of a miracle if you really think about it.) Victoria is the convivial hostel mayor we've all been looking for. Ask her about sampling the local Aguadiente. The hammock they can hook up on the back patio is worth it. It's a mild trek to sites, but the neighborhood is nice.

If you want to have a cheap place to stay close to a Metro station, you can stay at Ivy. The staff, mainly being volunteers, was very friendly. Still they gave me several information about touristic attractions which turned out to be wrong. Also, they couldn’t keep up with cleaning as apparently the majority of the guests behave like they are the only ones in the hostel, especially in the bathrooms which was really not nice to put it in simple words. I would not stay again to be honest.
