Property Description

Ivy is an Australian and American-owned hostel. As experienced backpackers ourselves, we strive to incorporate the characteristics that we find so important in hostels while avoiding all of those obvious don'ts. Here you will find a chill yet sociable environment in a converted mansion with all of the creature comforts of home. Looking for an amazing included breakfast? You'll find it here. TV room with Netflix? Yep. Bar? Yep. We’re not a party hostel, but you can find good times, forge new friendships in the bar or in one of our common areas, and then bank some solid sleep once the party is over. If you are like many of our guests, you will find yourself becoming part of the Ivy family and extending your stay with us! The hostel is located in a clean and comfortable 9-bedroom, 7-bathroom mansion, including 3 private rooms and 6 dorms varying in size from 3 to 8 beds. Hostel features include:

- Free breakfast for all guests (eggs cooked to your style, fruits, toast and spreads, unlimited juice & coffee)
- HOT showers
- Solid 30mb wifi connection throughout the house to keep tinder swiping
- Well-stocked kitchen with everything you need to whip up that award-winning souffle
- TV room with cable AND Netflix, with what is likely the most comfortable couch in Medellin (affectionately named “Harvey”). Just try to pry yourself up once you get settled in!
- Open back terrace with hammock and retractable awning for those rainy dayzzz
- Fully stocked bar, daily happy hour and home of our house drink, the Poison Ivy ;)
- Free use of our 2 guest computers
- Laundry services
- Lockers for securing your valuables
- Free on-site parking (including secured parking for motorcycles behind a locked gate)
- Gas grill to BBQ up a storm over a few cold ones
- Friendly and helpful staff to assist you with tours and transportation (and info on whatever else you may be looking for in Medellin or on your travels through Central & South America)
- Free mediocre quality banta / laughs at reception, and nominal charge for high quality version of the same

What “don'ts” will you not find at Ivy (that we've experienced elsewhere)? Blaring music/sleep deprivation until 3 am, annoying “nickle and dime” charges to print boarding passes, rude staff, list of 200 strict rules to follow (you are adults, afterall), having to make up your own bed in the dark when you arrive at midnight (we do that for you before you arrive), cramped bathroom stalls requiring pretzel-twisting yoga maneuvers to pull up your drawers, etc.

Ivy Hostel is located in a safe, leafy suburb outside of the hectic party district, but with convenient access to everything the city has to offer. This is why we can offer you a great nights sleep, while the party district is only a 5-minute cab ride and the price of a late night slice of pizza away. Ivy offers excellent access to Medellin's metro system; only a 5-10 minute (and relatively flat) walk to the nearby Aguacatala station will propel you throughout the city to many of the tourist hot spots and local neighborhoods. We’re a 5-minute walk to 2 major grocery stores (one of which is open 24-hours) and 2 major shopping malls, and a 10-minute walk to the EAFIT University language center - the largest in the city (offering 2- and 4-week programs). Additionally, we have convenient access to the growing yet still authentically Colombian sector of Envigado either by foot, taxi, or bus. And if you happen to stay with us over the weekend, don't forget to take advantage of a “ciclovía,” in which the south-bound lanes of the beautiful Avenida Poblado (located almost next to the hostel) are blocked off to traffic and filled with walkers, joggers, bikers, and the occasional rollerblader. This occurs on most Sundays and “puentes” (one of the numerous Colombian holidays that fall on a Monday).

Was meant to stay 4 nights and ended up stayin 10! Ivy hostel became a home from home after being in many hostels around Columbia this one was our favourite. Amazing kitchen, the comfiest couch in Netflix room, comfy bunks with spacious rooms, lots of opportunity to socialise. Made so many friends, had nights out and in. Most important the staff are the best. Always happy to help, teach you arepa recipes, advice on where to go. Even take you to towns on days off. Miss you already! Ell and Mary

We only stayed two nights but wished we could have stayed longer! The place in itself is really great, well located and neat. That being said, the best part is the amazing staff, they are very helpful and very nice! Great place to meet people from all around the world and locals. I really recommend it! Thanks again Ivy hostel!

I really enjoyed my stay at Ivy. I stayed in three different Hostels during my stay in Medellin and this was my favorite place. The price is great and it was the largest hostel of the three I stayed in. There is outdoor space, a tv lounge, a bar area, storage lockers and several bathrooms for guests to use. It is also walking distance from Santafe Mall and a huge grocery store. This is a great starting point to stay for you to get to know Medellin. It's also walking distance from the metro.

Good comfortable hostel to stay in. Close to supermarkets/metro with a well equipped kitchen. Great value for money and free breakfast includes eggs and fruit! Was super chill when we stayed here. Staff are SO lovely, and helped us with everything we needed and even booking a doctors appointment. Bathrooms were great and CLEAN. Beds were comfortable. Fans in room which was a plus.

Really friendly staff and the hostel was nice and clean but my bed was in the Jardin dorm and I didn't sleep much due to people drinking and playing music on the terrace until 3am. I imagine the other dorms are much quieter. Need more chairs on the terrace, it feels awkward going out there and not being able to sit and join in conversation. Lovely breakfast!

It's not awful, but not great. There are no lock boxes to but your money and passport and stuff. There are not enough plugs in the dorms for everyone to charge a phone. The whole place smells like cigarette smoke. The bathrooms are pretty gross, not to mention weirdly slippery. Good location though.
