Absolutely wonderful stay. Not if, but *when* I come back to Kyoto I will very most likely stay here again. It was very cozy and staff even asked how my day had been.

This place is AMAZING! The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. (also some talented artists among them) I paid to stay an extra night not just because I fell in love with Kyoto but also the atmosphere and chill environment of this hostel! Can't recommend it enough, I will definitely be staying here next time I'm in Kyoto. They even gave me a snack for my train ride to Tokyo 😭 Also if the weather permits, I recommend renting a bike from them and cycling around the city, insanely fun.

Quiet hostel right down the street from Kyoto station. Stayed for 3 nights as used as a base for day trips to Osaka and Nara. A couple miles away from Fushimi Inari. Only one shower per floor.

I loved this hostel! It was only a 10 minute walk from Kyoto Station and across the street from the local bus station. The staff was super friendly and helpful and taught us how to make okonomiyaki (a local dish) one night. The room I stayed in was very clean and spacious with a huge window overlooking the city. The bed was comfortable and had both a privacy curtain and a bookshelf. There was even space to put my suitcase next to my bunk (and I was on the top). Definitely would recommend!

The location is great, about a 5 minute walk from Kyoto station. There are several convenience stores near the place, even the post office is around the corner. The staff is very nice and the kitchen and bathroom are very clean.

I thought the location was good (subway and Kyoto Station right nearby), and it was really easy to navigate around from. I thought the staff was super friendly. It was clean and in a safe location. My biggest complaint was that the beds were really uncomfortable, and maybe I'm just used to my own pillow, but the ones here were so thin - I used my hoodie to make it better to sleep on. There's no elevator so good luck if you're on a higher floor - but those aside, it was good value for the money.

the staff was very friendly, the place felt clean and organized and the beds were really big, big enough to bring your whole suitcase up to the top bunk without it effecting bed space. there are lockers, big enough to keep small stuff, but not suitcases. (place felt safe anyway). keep in mind there are no elevators, so if you're on the top floor, you have to climb a ton of stairs with your luggage, but the staff was very helpful with that too. I had a good experience here. I recommend it!

Staff was absolutely wonderfull so helpfull and extremely nice. Location is about a 8-10 minute walk to Kyoto Station which is very convenient, also right by a 7/11 and several places to eat and drink. Only thing is the place could you some tlc its not bad in any way but a good way to describe it is “well loved” a fresh coat of paint and maybe a few other things and the place would be amazing. Would definitely come back and recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and easy place to stay in kyoto

J-Hoppers Kyoto Guest House says

I think what guests like most about our property is our very friendly, English-speaking staff. We just love chatting with our guests!
Toji Temple is just 15 minutes' walk from our hostel and has the highest wooden pagoda in Japan. I personally recommend visiting the Fushimi Inari Shrine. It's an important Shinto shrine in Kyoto and has trails leading into the wooded forest of sacred Mount Inari, which stands at 233 meters and belongs to the shrine grounds. At the back of the shrine's main grounds is the entrance to the torii gate covered hiking trail, which starts with two dense, parallel rows of gates called Senbon Torii ("thousands of torii gates"). The torii gates along the entire trail are donations by individuals and companies.
I'd say we're ideally suited for single travellers and couples aged 16 to 50. Erika, Receptionist
