Property Description

Jagatram Niwas is a family-run homestay guest house in the ancient village of Heini, in the foothills of the Himalayan Dhauladhar range.

The guesthouse is situated above Dharamsala and McLeodganj - the home of the Dalai Lama - and is an ideal base for trekking, excursions, and exploring the locality.

The views and natural surroundings are stunning, with diverse flora and fauna, including kites, monkeys and mongooses.

We have a selection of comfortable, stylishly furnished twin and double rooms, some with attached bathroom and use of shared kitchen, and some with use of shared bathroom. We off breakfast and traditional Himachali home-cooked dinners at an additional cost.

The atmosphere is welcoming - the two brothers who own Jagatram Niwas live on-site with their families - but guests may also enjoy privacy as they wish, sitting out on our huge terraces. Whether you are looking for activities (including trekking and yoga/meditation courses in the area) or a peaceful retreat, Jagatram Niwas offers a great holiday. View House Rules

We had a great winter break at Jagatram Niwas. The guest house is set above McLeodganj in an old village, which you can reach by taxi followed by a ten-minute walk. You can also walk down to Bhagsu and back up again - a really nice walk but not for the fainthearted. We enjoyed the simple breakfasts (banana porridge is highly recommended) and enjoyed the homestyle dinners even more, cooked by the friendly host bavender and his wife Raika. Definitely recommended if you want to stay out of town.

This was a really nice home stay. The room was clean and comfortable. Staff were great right from when we made the booking to when we checked out, Mr. Bavinder went above and beyond with helping us during our stay. Location is nice and peaceful, but is a little bit of a hike to get to. We stayed here because we planned to trek to Triund, and this was perfect for that as the start of the trail is right out the back door. Highly recommend this homestay to anyone!

Beautiful place to stay if you’re into trekking. Right at the bottom of the Triund trail and has beautiful views. Our stay was so peaceful and relaxing - exactly what we wanted. We did loads of trekking and this place is perfectly situated for that, the trails start right out the back door. Loved it and would stay again. Only downside is no food offered during the day. Other than breakfast and pre ordered dinner. There is use of a kitchenette though.

Homely guesthouse, warm family and beautiful location. As is advertised, you must be prepared for a bit of walking to go anywhere, but it’s worth it to stay here.

    Fabulous

I grew fond of this place as soon as its rustic charm embraced me. This homestay is nestled in lush greenery with an uninhibited vision of mist clad mountains far away. It presents a beautiful glimpse of nature at the dawn and dusk with the twitter of birds and scent of vegetation to cheer you up. The rooms are cosy and squeaky clean and the host full of warmth and attentive to the needs of the guest. I had a comfortable and pleasant stay here. I would like to stay here again.

Enjoyed our stay here. Staff answered any of our queries quickly & efficiently. The room was comfortable & everything we needed. The views from the property are amazing and it is the perfect starting point for hikes. Only negatives I have is that on arrival we felt the welcome was a little cold due to our bus dropping us off later than expected. Our room was next to the kitchen so was noisy in the morning. Perfect place for a relaxed trip if ur not wanting to be near the shops. Would stay again!

    Very Good

We unfortunately arrived at 4am &tried to negotiate our way to the hostel in the dark. The taxi driver had no idea where we were staying so dropped us off in Bhagsu. The hostel world pin is incorrect & the directions from the host email were not accurate either. You have to trek up a steep hill or if indeed you can follow the email directions ramble in and out of people’s back gardens to get there. That said the views from the guesthouse are idealic and it is peaceful & close to hiking trails.

Overall, I probably wouldn't stay here again. + great view of Dharamsala, many birds to watch + not many spiders, clean room, delicious dinner, really close to the start of Triund Trek, not far from Bhagsunag waterfall, nice family/staff except for host - hard to find, kitchen kind of shabby, Bavinder doesn't make much of an effort as a host, had to wait 2h for him upon arrival + when I left he didn't even say bye, wifi was often turned off without warning, other guests preferred not to talk

I never got to stay in this property. I got the mail from homestay that there were no rooms available at all and that the booking was made in error by hostel world. I will never going to book from hostel world again. It caused me great discomfort to go through new bookings again since my this booking got canceled.
