This quirky, clean, comfortable and quiet hostel is set in a historic former jail. It's located about 20 minutes' walk from the Arts Centre, Christchurch Art Gallery, Canterbury Museum and the Botanic Gardens and is surrounded by a variety of bars and cafes. Great hostel to stay in for a couple of nights. Bathrooms and kichen were always clean. The kitchen is big and has everything you need to cook a nice meal. A little far walk from the city center (30min walk) but a good place to stay if you are taking the train early in the morning (20 min walk). It's nice to be able to read about the history of the jail, and even see original artwork on the wall of one of the cells (you don't sleep in this cell).

We enjoyed our stay at the Jailhouse very much! Comfortable beds and a fun design. Good facilities available in the kitchen. Only criticism would be that the bathroom was a bit cramped, but they were clean with nice, hot showers. Overall a good stay, I would recommend!

Great staff, above average cleanliness for a hostel, location is great if you want to be close to town without being right in the middle of it, free parking, and the wifi connection is great.

Such a cool idea! It's a little bit outside of the main city area, but the walk is through a nice park so not too bad. Most of the time we picke dup lime scooters along the way. Pool table was a nice touch.

It was cool for about 1 hour but then you're just in a cell. It has no atmosphere, the staff are so-so, the showers were never clean, the toilets are impossible to get into if you're tall. Not the best part of Christchurch either. It is also very loud in the evenings despite there being quiet zone signs everywhere.
