Third time I have stayed. Quiet after 9pm which makes a change from many backpacker hostels. Good hot showers, clean kitchen.

Most unique atmosphere with all the basic needs plus a little bit more when it comes to kitchen equipment. Certainly novel and great value.

This is a must-stay if you are in Christchurch. The place is historic and you really get the full experience. I did find it a bit creepy, but that’s just me. They have a hostel cat. Staff was very helpful. Everything seemed clean. But rooms were a little cold. I wish you could turn the heat up. Also there was no place to lock up valuables.

Everything great except the wifi doesn't work well in the rooms due to the thick prison walls blocking the signal, need to go into the main halls to get strong connections.

Only stayed for one night in a double room. It was super clean, and they have somehow managed to make an old prison into a very modern, and rather cosy place! Recommend it as an experience!

This hostel was fantastic! Being able to stay somewhere with so much cool and interesting history was amazing! The rooms were incredibly clean and tidy! The kitchen was well stocked with anything you might need to make a good meal, and very clean, the staff are very good at making sure everything is tidy and neat. However, the staff weren’t very engaging and didn’t really try to make me feel welcome when I arrived. And the bathrooms were uncomfortably small, but not much you can do about that.

What a unique place to stay! There were a number of places for communal gathering, but also plenty of privacy in my single room. The kitchen had everything you might need and was kept fairly tidy, as was the bathroom. It also looked like you could do a work for stay, an option I wish I'd seen BEFORE I stayed. Next time!

I stayed for one night in a ten bed dorm. When I first came in, the staff were a bit disappointing. Even though it was 1 pm, my bed wasn’t ready (which I understand) but no one came to tell me that it was ready, so I waited way longer. The second person I talked to was very nice. Very secure and cool building to explore with good kitchen and bathrooms. The location is a 25 min walk from the city, but there are some restaurants, cafes, and Hagley park right near it.

Stayed for 3 night. Cleaners took a bag of my belongings and I had to leave before reception opened the next day to catch my flight so lost them all. Explained situation to hostel via email they said I could collect when I went back to Christchurch only I’m not going back! It was the last day of my 4 weeks in the South Island and I’m flying home in 5 days. Now they won’t reply to my email so they basically stole my stuff. Also people were loud and it Echo’s keeping everyone awake.
