Property Description

We are a Chinese guest house which are newly renovated in the heart of Melakas world heritage China Town, on a very special street called Harmony Street. Here Malaysias oldest Hindu temple nestles close to a Malay mosque equally old and a few steps away one finds a Chinese temple, also Malaysias oldest. Rumor has it that there was once a Christian church here too, where the Bible was first rendered into Chinese.

For more than 150 years the back of Jalan-Jalan Guest house was a blacksmith shop and Chinese medicines were sold in the front. Effort has been made to preserve the spirit of the original building while making it a comfortable home for travelers on a tight budget. We have two sunny, plant-filled inner courtyards where you can meet new friends or just sit and listen to drifting sounds of bells and chants filling the neighborhood.

*Steps away from Melaka River, the world heritage Dutch Square, Little India, Baba & Nyonya Museum and the famous Jonker Street night market

*All rooms come with fans and some with air-conditioning with common shared bathroom, FREE internet and WiFi, FREE coffee/tea...

*Our twin room is bunk bed/double decker. View House Rules

Very good location, friendly staff, fan next to every bed, safety lockers, fine clean beds, very good value for that money. There was no soap in the bathroom.

    Very Good

Great value for money but the dorms don't have air con so it was really hard to relax and sleep. I liked that I didn't have to pay much but for just a couple dollars more I found a hostel that had aircon dorms which was worth the extra money.

    Very Good

Great location, but the room left a lot to be desired. We were in a private room on the top floor and it was insanely hot. No AC and our fan didn't do much for us. Also the room has an opening at the top so Mosquitos could get in and the mosquito net wasn't the cleanest or easiest to use.

Fine for a night’s stay, which is all you really need in Melaka anyway. WiFi sucks and cuts out constantly, the place is kinda dirty, and there’s zero atmosphere to speak of. Bed was nice enough but the old fan didn’t really make up for the lack of aircon. It wasn’t bad for the price, and the free filtered water is nice. Location is good if you’re there for the weekend night market.

Very dirty bathroom and shower stalls. The room had no ventilation and I was bitten by so many mosquitos despite the fact that there was a mosquito net. Not to mention the hostel was completely empty and couldn’t socialize with anyone. The only good things are the location and the guy who works in the reception who was very friendly and helpful. Everything else was a miss.

I stayed one night in Melacca and booked a bed in that guesthouse. The entrance door can be opened with a code and the door to the room has no key. Lockers are too small to put a small backpack in. Showers and toilets were on a different floor and outside. Also no breakfast included and no towels. I forgot my own towel there and a friend should pick it up but the staff didn't give it to him although they ensured me via mail that it's ok. There are definitely better places to stay!!

The bed is hard and difficult to sleep. There is no hot water in the shower. There is no key in the dormitory. It's broken here and there, and it's old. It's certainly cheap, but staying here will be a waste of money.
