We really enjoyed our stay at the Jungle River Lodge, the location is fantastic. We arrived in low season so were the only guests most of the time so the place was very quiet but suited what we were looking for. One of the entrances for Pico Bonito National Park is only about 500m away so easy to do a day hike right from the lodge.

The staff here were very friendly and helpful. The last bus from town leaves at 3pm (ish) so you'll need a taxi after this - the lodge will arrange one if you let them know. There are no cooking facilities but meals were not expensive. Only beer at the bar! Juan Carlos was a fabulous guide for the river canyoning and rafting ! There was only us the first night, but there were a few other people the second night. I wouldn't expect it to ever be really busy so don't expect other guests.

Dorms are spacious and no bunk beds. However, you walk through the first dorm room to get to the others. Not a problem during my stay as I was literally the only guest (so atmosphere was non-existent). Seems to be in a state of unfinished renovations. Room not cleaned/beds not made from before my stay. No menu for meals. Staff were friendly and helpful.

The hostel is great for rafting the river and has some cool natural pools to sit in by the river. The staff seemed quite underconfident or disinterested. You have to eat their because there’s not much else around and the hostel was largely empty when I was there. The dorms are fine but a little basic and the bathroom doors didn’t lock. Just needs a bit of work

The surroundings are amazing being located just by the beautiful river. The place has a lot of potential but... There wasn’t any place to just relax and read a book, which would have been perfect with these surroundings. The staff were difficult to communicate with - I even know spanish at a decent level. Being the only guest I still had to wait two hours for dinner and the entire stay had a weird vibe. BUT the guide for the park was great! Ask for Juan Carlos, if you ever get here.
