Property Description

KEX. It's the Icelandic word for 'biscuit' and new social hostel in Reykjavik. What's not to love?

Housed in an old biscuit factory in the heart of Reykjavik, KEX is just steps from all the bars, clubs, and music venues that give this city its legendary reputation. It's also a painless distance from late-night munchies and a mind-boggling array of coffee houses, shops, and tourist attractions.

Of course, you might not even want to venture outside of the hostel with all its features, including a café and bar, lounge area, heated outdoor patio, tourist information desk, laundry room and free Wi-Fi.

In addition to our dormitory rooms we offer three different double rooms.
The Double Plus has one double bed, a private bathroom, linens and towels and a fantastic seaside view.
The Double Standard has one double bed (of the most clever convertible design in case you get tired of being so close to your travel partner), shared bathrooms, linens and towels and - if you are lucky - the same fantastic view.
The Twin Private has two single beds, linens and towels and a better-than-average chance of making your friends back home quite jealous indeed.

Ladies - for your comfort and peace-of-mind, we offer female-only dorms. If you would prefer to reserve a bed in such a dorm, please make sure to do so directly from the reservation window. If none are available, you are welcome to contact us after booking to double-check.

Families - a few of our four-bed dorms are equipped with bunk beds which can be pushed together to form what we like to call a double bunk bed. This has Mom and Dad on the bottom and kids on top. Baby cribs are also available to families traveling with a diaper bag. Please be sure to contact us after booking in order to arrange for this type of room. Space is limited, and family rooms are reserved on a first-come basis.

Children under the age of 3 stay for free and children under 12 pay 50%. The same is true for many of the excursions which can be booked directly from the hostel reception.

Two guest kitchenettes and private laundry facilities are also available. And with a variety of rooms for up to 200 guests, you'll have no problem meeting interesting new travel buddies from exotic places.

Our hostel just oozes personality and soul, just like our guests. Every piece of décor has a story to tell. Using salvaged materials and found objects from various sources, the design is an organic concept blending Iceland’s past with a modern, international twist. The raw industrial spaces and vintage furnishings combine to give it a homey, eclectic feel.

With the affordable nightly rates, you’ll still have enough cash left over to enjoy a few pints of Viking beer or sample some local delicacies like hákarl‎ and brennivín.

We’re located in the centre of Reykjavik with a view across the bay to Mt. Esja. The old factory that houses KEX is also home to studios of various artists, dancers, and fashion designers. We’re within an easy walking distance to the city's interesting nightlife, restaurants, shopping streets, cultural attractions and other points of interest in the city centre. To reach those places a little further afield, the hostel is well connected to the city’s public bus system.

Please note that children under 16 cannot stay in shared dorms. Children over 16 years of age can stay in shared dorms when travelling with a guardian. View House Rules

We came in for sadly just one night. Everyone was kind and professional. They booked our bus tickets to and from the airport. The bed was comfortable and clean, we ate lunch and dinner there (great fries). Can't wait to come back.

Great place, nice vibe and cool bar. Was only here for two nights but would stay here again. Staff were nice and helpful. The only thing is it’s a little pricey, but it’s expected in Iceland. Great location too.

Perfect for a short stay in Reykjavík! Situated across the sea and close to town. Loved the lounge/bar/restaurant spaces. The decor and atmosphere were amazing. You’ll see me soon!

We stayed in a 10-bed room and we were surprised how large the room was. The bunk beds were located around the perimeter and there was a huge table with chairs in the middle. Plenty of windows, but not sea view. Not too far from downtown. The front entrance to the building may be deceiving, but once you get to the 2nd floor, where the reception is, everything looks very nice and welcoming, with open space, lots of windows facing the sea, a pub. Nice kitchen areas on 2nd and 3rd floors.

Bag didn’t fit inside locker so had to keep it out. Could lock away valuables but not everything hence 4 stars for security. Breakfast was amazing. Only had it one morning due to price but definitely recommend trying at least once. Price for bed does not included a duvet which you’d think would be included as usually is in a hostel. Extra charge for duvet on arrival. Bathrooms very clean, they are cleaned multiple times per day. Beds very comfortable and don’t squeak. Staff very nice and helpful

This was a very nice hostel. The bar downstairs is very nice but it did not feel very social. For whatever reason, it was difficult to connect with other travelers- maybe because the bar is open to the public, so you don’t really know who are travelers and who aren’t? My only suggestion is that instead of towels next the the showers, maybe put a real bath mat there. Anyway, other than that, this hostel is incredibly clean and in a good location, looking right over the sea. I also felt very safe

    Fabulous

A great place to stay at. The rooms were very clean and the staff were super friendly. However, im pretty sure there was only one or two private showers on my floor, which were always in use. All other showers were communal, no walls, and not cleaned regularily from the looks of it. Time your showers, lads, and bring shower shoes! All in all, the staff were super helpful, and I met some pretty cool people

Kex is a very hip looking hostel. When you enter the building and entrance stairwell, the place looks a bit dingy and rundown. However, when you enter the lobby, it's very hip and well decorated and designed. The facilities all met expectations. The bathrooms were kept clean, as were the dorms. However, the place is very loud. The dorms each have very heavy and loud metal doors and metal lockers that are impossible to open and close quietly. The place was nice, but unfortunately I did not sleep.
