Kaktus Hostel Background

Kaktus property has been created by two developers of luxury accommodation in Marrakech who were looking for a challenge. We wanted to create an economical and socially responsible property. Kaktus Property is more than just a simple accommodation for travelers; it is a place of experimentation into sustainable development, as well as a place for artists and culture to thrive.
Kaktus Hostel and the Environment

We are very conscious of our impact on the environment and our global footprint. In order to do this we adopt a number of principles in order to minimize our waste, electrical energy and water consumption. We start with the training and awareness of our staff. We educate them on issues of ecology and attitudes to adopt in regards to reducing our economic footprint. All of our furnishings have been manufactured by recycled materials using a DIY concept converting old useless materials into fantastic new designs. All our organic waste and part of our non-organic waste is recycled, reprocessed or reused. We are involved in many projects in the region for the rehabilitation of natural sites and reforestation and reducing desertification. Finally we are open to other projects with similar interests; if anyone has any ideas as to what we can do we’d love to hear them!

Kaktus Hostel Social Responsibility

We are very conscious about the social responsibility in regards to the quality of life of our staff. Both in their intellectual and personal development, we offer courses in foreign languages and management. We also organise tours of galleries and other cultural events to raise awareness of our staff in art and culture in general

Kaktus Hostel Culture

At Kaktus property we strongly believe that culture is important to make the world more tolerant and just. We are trying to do our best to improve and develop the culture within Morocco. We intend to launch many artistic programs (exhibitions, workshops, film, photography, readings, mini concerts… etc). We are a partner of many festivals within the city and we graciously offer accommodation and support to them. View House Rules

Hostel was a ghost town so atmosphere was nil. Two bathrooms for 36 beds so was happy to swap atmosphere for queuing and bathroom lines. Two guys who work there were really nice and helpful without being overbearing or trying to sell something which is nice for Morocco. Breakfast was great Good for the price

Not too many people when I was there, but I went in the winter so I'm sure it's different in a more popular season. Mohammed and the whole team was really nice and cool!

Oh, how I wish I could leave a better review.. BED BUGS, woke up in the middle of the night (bottom bunk in a big dorm), facilities could be a bit better as they are just there next to the common area, otherwise staff is extremely nice - Rashid thank you for your help

Overall, the most basic hostel I stayed at in Morocco. Price is good but you get what you pay for with outdated dorms (not enough lockers / sockets, hard mattresses). Security is my biggest concern. Friends of the staff wander in and out at all times including into the rooms and a friend had a GoPro stolen from his bag despite being the only person checked into his room. Location is close to the main square. If you’re on a tight budget this is okay. However, be very careful with your stuff.

**Safety Warning** The bathroom/shower area is gender neutral, and I caught a guy with his camera above the ledge aimed to film/photo me while showering. The hostel worker did nothing to confront the individual despite knowing who had just been in the bathroom/shower area and after I had described the phone. There were no procedures for how to handle this situation in place. This is an unsafe establishment for all who travel, especially female solo travelers such as myself.

We ended up leaving the hostel soon after we arrived. The staff was unprofessional, uninformed and on the whole made us feel uncomfortable. The facilities looked nothing like the photos online. Also, we were put on edge by the fact that we seemed to be the only ones staying at the hostel at that time. We felt that out stuff would not be safe there and reading other reviews confirmed this suspicion. We left because we felt unsafe and found much better accommodation for the same price.
