Property Description

The Katoomba Mountain Lodge is an independent low budget accommodation service in the heart of the Blue Mountains. We are a cozy and relaxed place that caters primarily for international backpackers, families and couples.

The lodge is one of the oldest heritage buildings in Katoomba. The building was originally created as a primary school, subsequently transformed into a nursing home and at the end of 1970s refashioned into the guesthouse of today.

We have free WiFi, an updated tourist information board with current events and stuff happening in town, a jobs board, two warm lounge rooms with a wide selection of DVDs and TV channels, great hot showers, a tranquil & relaxing reading room and a sunny terrace with two spacious outdoor decks.

Our kitchen is fully equipped to prepare your meals and we also provide free coffee and tea. There is a vegetable bed in our garden where our guests can pick fresh herbs for their dishes and we also have interesting cook books in our kitchen if you are looking for inspiration or wanting to get creative.

Our reception is open daily between 10am to 7 pm. If you are checking-in after 7, please give us a call and we can happily arrange a late check-in for you.
Your card will be charged anytime after you book. 2% surcharge applies. View House Rules

Had a really enjoyable time at this hostel. It has a really chill atmosphere, it's close to the mountains and shops, and things were fairly clean. The owner was very friendly as well

PROS: Loved the ambience - decaying old world charm, peaceful chilled-out atmosphere. The private room was clean, comfortable bed, warm enough at night. Doesn't seem crowded in spite of the building size; everyone encountered was friendly but you're left to do your own thing. CONS: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE clean the bathrooms more often! Also the shared kitchen is only available until 9pm which was a bit awkward.

    Very Good

The lodge is quite old which shows, could do with a bit of a refurb. A few things broke while I was here but the staff were really helpful and fixed everything quickly. Bedrooms and bathrooms were clean, kitchen was relatively clean but not well equipped, owner needs to purchase some new utensils, luckily there weren’t many people using the kitchen during my stay. Very good location

    Very Good

This ain’t no normal hostel. Its atmosphere, location and interior reminded us of an Hut in the alpes (positiv). The open areas are ideal for groups although the kitchen is not the biggest one, but who cares. The bunk beds are not the best but way better than most hostels. The staff is super polite and doesn’t bother you at all. We extended our stay without any problems.

The place is done in a way that there would be the least contact with staff as possible. I was not encouraged to ask for any extra info or help (also because the reception is behind a metal lattice door and it's unclear when it's open). I booked this place, because I saw there is a piano. It has not been tuned for decades. The dining room decorations are rundown. There were notes from 2017 on the notice board. The plus - the bed was really nice and firm and I got a room to myself.

Stayed here 2 nights and found it all strange, upon check in the member of staff did not once ask for my name, ID or any type of proof who I am (I was charged the expected amount), I was supplied a key (no security deposit, strange again). The room I was assigned to was empty both nights no one else staying, the door didn't even lock so no point of having the key! Children running around and screaming in the hall ways later at night. Good location for what I wanted, but strange vibes in general

The weirdest, strangest hostel we have ever stayed at. Creepy people, there were a total of about 4 nice people. We went into our room and only had one sheet one pillow and two blankets between two seperate beds. The kitchen is tiny and the whole vibe is very historic and dark. Very old fashioned, the showers aren’t nice either, we checked out very quickly and showered at a gym near by.
