Hostelworld says

Khaosan Kyoto Guest House is very centrally located, around the corner from the train station and just 10 minutes' walk from the Gion District. This stylish, clean hostel offers comfortable beds as well as free Wi-Fi, coffee, green tea, shampoo and soap. Location 10/10 - 5 min walk to Nishiki markets and a walk to Gion. A quick bus ride to Kyoto station. Staff are so so helpful - called the hospital for us when we needed and booked us in, making things much less stressful for us. Beds are comfy with warm doonas and heating. Really comfy shared lounge and great kitchen, quiet most of the time. Thank you thank you, we loved our stay!

Stayed here for a few nights, the staff was always very nice and helped me extended night after night. The location is great, very close to the big day market, the metro, Gion, etc. the hostel had laundry which was nice, and very comfy beds! Not much a scene that I saw for solo travelers looking to meet people, but there was a large common room on the 4th floor. Would stay again!

My stay was good overall. But one thing to mention, there was an unpleasant odor in my room and even though I left the window open all day, the odor was still there.

The hostel is very conveniently located. It is downtown Kyoto but also within walking distance from Gion and Higashiyama neighbourhoods, and Kyoto station (2km). For any other place you might want to reach, you are in the center and you will easily find your way with public transportation which is very good! The hostel itself is awesome, great and clean facilities, kitchen and lounge. The staff is super nice, helpful and speaks English :) Great value, I'd definitely recommend!

Nice hostel. Very central location. We stayed in a 10 bed dorm and it was a little cramped though. I had to put my bag at the other end of the room because it would block the door otherwise. There was an air-con war in our room too as it gets hot at one end and stays cold at the other but that we sorted that among ourselves. Mattresses were quite thin too but the memory foam pillow was nice. Bathrooms were clean and common area and kitchen was nice. Good value hostel in a great location!

Nothing wrong with the hostel, it was clean and the staff were friendly but there just really wasn’t much of an atmosphere, very quiet (which could be good depending on what you want). There just was not many people staying there and it was kind of lonely, this might be different depending on the time of year you stay of course.

Cheap hostel, although given it was during corona, maybe not that cheap. Rooms are very basic with not enough plug sockets. Toilets had no soap- you had to go into a separate bathroom to wash your hands. Were told that we weren't allowed anyone else in under any circumstances-annoying if you meet friends in Kyoto and wanted to chill with them inside. It's basically absolutely fine and in a good location but they clearly havent updated it or spent money on it in years. Could do with a facelift
