Hostelworld says

La Chimba Hostel is set in the charming bohemian neighbourhood of Barrio Bellavista, just five minutes from La Chascona and the nearest metro station. Hostelworld guests have said the private rooms have 'all the amenities of a hotel with more character' and that they'd recommend this hostel because it has 'many open places to sit, mingle and drink'. This laid-back hostel has an outdoor terrace, clean comfortable beds and friendly staff who like to socialise with guests, hosting pub crawls, BBQs and more.

Property Description

New for 2018: La Chimba now has a full bar with the cheapest beer in the city!!!!

La Chimba Hostel has been a favourite of international backpackers and independent travelers visiting Santiago since we opened in 2005. Our guests have consistently praised our property and service over the years and among other distinctions, we were the first non-European hostel to win a World Top Ten Hoscar award. Our location in the heart of Barrio Bellavista guarantees a fun and interesting stay.

La Chimba is a unique, eclectic property comprised of different buildings, each with its own character, some quiet, some social, all connected by labyrinthic walkways, patios and courtyards. It is easy to meet people in our three living rooms, two kitchens or our awesome Pool Salon. We also have an art gallery displaying fine artwork from local and international artists.

Our young staff is always ready to suggest authentic places for those wanting to get under the skin of the city. Our activity manager is always planning fun events for our guests such as barbecues, dinners, salsa lessons, poker nights and walking tours, among others. Guests can at any time use our world’s best hostel Pool Salon, the football, the movie room and even a pinball machine.

Digital nomads will love our unrivaled internet connectivity with our dedicated fiber-optic internet service that spreads free high-speed Wi-fi through the entire property allowing all our guests painless internet access at all times.

Our neighborhood is packed with the city’s best bars and restaurants, and clubs. The famous Santiago's Pub Crawl tour, that gathers travelers from all around town, has its meeting point in the bar across the street from us, and the crawl never ventures more than four blocks from our door.

You must be 18 or older to check in to La Chimba.

Travelers over 35 may only book private rooms.

    Superb

I was for week. Had an amazing time, the guys working there are the nicest! A special thank to Gabi and Eric, they were really nice and helpfull the whole time. It is near the best partying places to go, you can do almost everything on foot. Felt really saved the whole time. It is simple but it is all we need. Good bed, clean towels, wifi S2. Totally would go there again.

Hostel needs some cleaning up, but other than that it is great! The atmosphere is great, facilities all work well and are well kept, wifi is good and showers always hot. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Smaller dorm rooms all have USB plugins and lights for the bed.

    Very Good

    29 Apr 2018
There was a broken toilet in my dorm and signage saying it was out of order. Didn’t stop the girls in the dorm using it though and stinking the room out. Not the hostels fault but when I told the receptionist just to let her know she ignored me and did nothing it was still like this when I checked out 2 days later. Get a room closer to the Netflix room, much quieter then sleeping above reception. All in all it’s a good place to stay.

    Good

A couple of members of staff were amazing but beyond that most of them didn’t seem very aware of local area etc. Rooms looked tired and a little unclean. Good social areas though with big Netflix room and pool table. Organised pub crawls so good for socialising.

La Chimba Hostel says

I think Barrio Bellavista is arguably the most interesting district of Santiago, as far as cultural attractions and vibrant nightlife goes. The area is an oasis of colorful low-rise colonial architecture with leafy streets and a village-like atmosphere, and just a short walk to Plaza Italia, the Times Square of Santiago. The Baquedano Hub Metro station is located here and is the station that provides the most connectivity of the whole subway system. I particularly recommend visiting Cerro San Cristobal (the Metropolitan Park, a tall hill with a cable cart and amazing views of the city) and poet Pablo Neruda's former house, which is open to visitors. Both are less than two blocks away from our hostel. We can cater for people with disabilities and our hostel is suitable for independent solo travellers and couples seeking a social place to meet other travellers and experience Santiago's culture and nightlife.
