Must stay! Quiet, beautiful hostel owned by a couple named Dennis and Patricia. It is a small area of land full of flowers and fruit trees. Common space has tables and hammocks. Dennis and Patricia are SO accommodating, so helpful. Breakfast available in the mornings and they assisted us in organizing transport and tour guides for hiking the volcanos. Balgue has a farm town feel with a lot of animals and a few really yummy restaurants. No ATM in Balgue tho! Pull out cash at Mayogalpa at ferry.

Lovely hostel, good vibes, super clean. The garden is really beautiful and you can see a lot of hummingbirds, blue "urracas" and other birds there. We did the volcano hike and was hard, but also incredible. Go and see ;)

This was a wonderful stay for us. The hostel was small, but very clean and comfortable. The owners were very friendly and happy to help us arrange transportation and activities on the island. The facilities were clean and in mice working order, and they also had bikes and scooters on site to rent for a reasonable price. The free coffee was very nice and for $4, the breakfast was delicious and reasonable! I would highly recommend a stay here if you enjoy peace and quiet. Gracias!

Great location just off the main road. Still easy access to all. Very helpful staff to help us fill in our 3 days on the island and get to the next part of trip. Lovely of the grid feel to the place. Really nice breakfast incl. smoothie for $4.

I loved Urraca so much I extended my stay by a few more days. It was a cozy home just as beautiful as Ometepe itself. The hostel is tiny which means you get to know everyone! As a solo traveller, I found this the perfect place to meet like-minded travellers. The couple that own the hostel live onsite and are very friendly and helpful. There is fridge for guests but no cooking facilities. Plenty of nearby restaurants though. Wifi is good. Short walk to the Maderas trail and local bus stop.

Such a lovely place to stay, the owners were so welcoming and helpful. Stay here if you want a quiet reprieve (like a detox from San Juan del Sur). It's not a big socializing place, although since the dorm is so small it is easy to befriend other travelers. Such clean facilities. Amazing outdoor shower!! Lockers in the rooms and the dorm door locks from the inside. Deliciously filling $4 breakfast to prep you for hikes. Tucked away a bit so not in the center of the action.

Lovely little hostel on a quiet part of the island. Slightly annoying (and expensive) to get to if you catch a taxi, but great location (near volcan Maderas, waterfall climb, ojo de agua and some great eateries) so DEFINITELY worth the effort. Because it's small it's not that easy to socialise, if you just want some quiet and to chill out it's perfect. Owners provided great recommendations and arranged ATVs for us. Would be helpful if there were kitchen facilities, but LOVED the breakfast.

Chilled back and relaxed place on the Maderas side of the island. The staff was very nice and helpful, and the beds were nice and comfortable. If you are on a budget, skip the $4 breakfast and walk up hill to a comedor. This is not a party hostel and if you are looking for a social evening don't stay here. Once night falls you have to walk basically everywhere (or take a pricey taxi or rent a motorcycle) and it will take about 30-45 minutes to reach other backpacker establishments.

Cute place with really friendly hosts and the place is super clean. The problem for us was that the hostel area is way too small; there isn’t good places to just chill and relax. There isn’t any good spots to just hang around anywhere nearby the hostel either. But the biggest dissapointment was that you are not allowed to use the kitchen, witch for us felt a bit awkward as the hosts live where the common area is. So you actually chill right next to the kitchen. With kitchen 2 points more!
