Property Description

Lidwala is widely regarded as Swaziland's best Backpackers Lodge. Beautifully located on the slopes of Sheba's Breast mountain, and with a stunning view over the Ezulwini Valley and Mdzimba hills, it is nestled among large boulders (hence its name), indigenous trees and a flowing stream. Lidwala is creatively designed with spacious verandas and offers a degree of exclusivity at budget rates.

The lodge is very conveniently located, being on the main Ezulwini road (mango-zeni combi stop) and within walking distance of most of Ezulwini's main facilities and attractions, including craft markets, the Gables shopping centre, hotels and restaurants. A shuttle service is available to and from Manzini Airport upon special arrangement, and there is safe parking available for self-drive guests. There are also shuttle services available from major cities outside of Swaziland.

The lodge offers a combination of dorms, en-suite twin and double rooms, safari tents with wooden decks and space in the grounds for camping. Dorm rooms and tents area available for R142.50pp/night; en-suite twin/double rooms are available from R372.50 per room/night; a twin safari tent is available for R317.50 per room/night; and camping is available for R80pp/night.

Free tea and coffee facilities are available for our guests, and we offer the option of breakfast and delicious home-cooked meals for dinner. Each Wednesday, you have the chance to taste traditional Swazi food, occasionally with live music provided by local bands.

We also offer a DSTV lounge, equipped with board games and book exchange, and there is a large veranda which includes a well-stocked fridge for the purchase of soft drinks as well as a range of beers and ciders. The lodge is surrounded by stunning spacious gardens with a communal braai and campfire area, as well as an outdoor swimming pool and hot-tub. Whether relaxing with a book in a rocking chair on the deck or exploring the surrounding area, Lidwala Backpacker Lodge is a beautiful base in Swaziland's 'Valley of Heaven'.

Lidwala has an information centre which offers a vast range of activities. Book here for All Out Africa tours and expeditions around Swaziland, or to Kruger Park and Mozambique. Experience true Swazi culture by going to a traditional Swazi dance, participate in a cultural ceremony (such as the annual Reed Dance), visit the craft market or explore the real Swaziland by quad bike. If a taste of adventure calls, we can help you to arrange white water rafting, adventure caving, horse riding or game viewing, among other exciting trips. You also have the chance to get involved in some of the conservation and community projects run by All Out Africa, and you are likely to meet and mingle with some of the international volunteers staying here. Nice and clean dorms. Other than some groups coming and messing things. Kitchen can be equipped well. Didn’t have oil to use for cooking. Mango trees and avocado in the compound. Hardworking staff. Could arrange a breakfast facility at some point which will help the backpackers sometimes. Or some activities to make us entertained.More sockets in the room would be helpful. There was only one in the dorm.

My stay at Lidwala far exceeded my expectations. The staff was incredible and responsive, not to mention very friendly, with incredible conversation. My room (a private twin en-suite) was spotless clean when I arrived. Next time I’m in eSwatini this will definitely be my first stop. The only thing to mention is that the supermarket requires a minibus ride, so if arriving by shuttle from South Africa, may want to get stuff at the grocery before going up to Lidwala.

Excellent place! Staff is super friendly and helpful - especially Simile!! -, hostel is just by a mountain where you can do a great hike and cross to the other side to visit the Cultural Village. Rooms were fine and shower hot. Main problem was not having power plugs. Had to charge phone over the day in the bar. My only concern would be having a lot of teenager volunteers there. I was lucky they were away, but it can he very unpleasant. Overall super positive and would come back!

Great place! Clean, comfortable, safe, spacious, scenic, great showers and an easy place to relax. Downsides were lack of easy access to food and awful wifi.

Booked for two nights and stayed for twelve! Nice staff, easy to get around, hot showers and well-equipped guest kitchen. Wifi super weak (as everywhere in the country). Easy to meet other travellers. Recommend!

Very nice hostel, clean, comfortable beds. It s a bit far from everything, so remember to bring your food! I had to walk to the gas station during the night to buy a sandwich. Staff is a bit to professional and not that friendly, I gently asked to make a phone call to South Africa, because I needed to talk to my wife and I was not able to do it by internet, and the girl just said NO.
