Property Description

Sitting on the southern shore of Loch Ossian, this traditional but homely eco-hostel makes a perfect base for hillwalkers looking to explore the remote wilderness of Rannoch Moor.

Accommodation at the hostel is in male and female specific dorms, but groups and families have the option of booking a dorm for exclusive use. The hostel has a fully equipped self-catering kitchen, with fridge, and a small shop selling ready meals, a range of snacks, postcards and sundries. Drying is available on two overhead racks and boot stands by the fire - the perfect place to relax after a day on the hills.

Guests can now enjoy a welcome hot shower, thanks to the development of locally sourced hydro power complimenting the micro generated solar power supply. There’s also electric panel heating throughout and all bed linen is provided, so no need for sleep sheets or sleeping bags. Other green initiatives include composting toilets, a reed bed grey water drainage system - and even bat-friendly paint!

Loch Ossian Youth Hostel is only accessible by rail, bike or foot. Corrour railway station (Glasgow to Fort William line) is the highest mainline railway station in the UK and the hostel is a short, approximately 20 minute walk from the station along a well-made track.

Loch Ossian Youth Hostel is the perfect place to stay if you’re looking to get away from it all. It has plenty of low and high level walks to choose from, including a variety of Munros and Corbetts. Popular with cyclists, star gazers, wildlife watchers, groups and families, it’s a great venue for a group getaway, or a peaceful break. View House Rules

Our stay at Loch Ossian has been impeccable, the location is a piece of heaven on earth. The hostel is very clean and well taken care of. Our stay couldn't have been any special without Katrina's kindness and hospitality, it is truly touching. She is a delight to chat with and she didn't hesitate to give us tips on spots worth checking out in the area. We didn't have boots appropriate for the area, she kindly lent us hers without even asking. She is undeniably the best hostel warden there is.

Our first ever Hostelling experience and we couldn’t of chosen a finer place to stay. Jan was simply awesome, friendly and worked tirelessly to both keep this beautiful place spotless and support guests. I’m definitely going back. Thank you for a wonderful experience 🤗❤️

A wonderful place - no sign of rubbish or degraded area around the building. Bit of a walk to the toilets in the night, light sensor useful.

An excellent hostel with a caring conscientious and welcoming warden, Jan. Great walking area on the flat path around the beautiful Loch Ossian or on the many surrounding hills, including the numerous Munroes in the vicinity. Highly recommended.

Ounce in a lifetime. Except I will be back. Remote, beautiful, wild. Small common area encourages conversations with new friends. Kitchen well supplied. Beds firm and comfortable.

Loved the place. It's a bit cramped when the whole dorm is full though so one night i could not sleep (there was a snoring orchestra going on all night). It would help if the 'take your own garbage out' was communicated more in the hostel itself since a few of my fellow guests were surprised that there was no bin. All the same, this is nitpicking since the place was fantastic for how much you pay.

The woman who runs the hostel, Jan, is absolutely amazing! The rooms were always clean and comfortable, and I throughly enjoyed my time there. The hostel is right in the middle of the highlands, and there are many hikes and trails that start as soon as you walk out the door!
