Property Description

The ground floor comprises a historic public bar and restaurant and the upper floors are for accommodation only.

Free Hi-speed WiFi in every room.

Flat panel TV with USB, HDMI, and DVD, in every private room.

Ceiling fans, and large opening windows w/ flyscreens in every room

There are six shared bathrooms for only seven rooms without ensuites, meaning you’ll NEVER have to wait.

-IMPORTANT – Guests should be aware that currently - while we do have a kitchenettes for guests - the facilities are limited to toasters, microwaves and kettles. This is due to new council regulations regarding fire safety that do not allow us to offer stove/oven cooking facilities.

However, we are minutes’ walk from Chinatown which offers the cheapest dining options in Sydney, and there is a picturesque cliff-top park 1 minute walk away that has free public barbecue/cooking facilities - and great sunset views!

Our restaurant serves affordable and delicious meals for lunch and dinner 6 days a week. Our ground floor public bar closes at midnight at the latest and is open 7 days.

The hotel is not a hostel in the typical sense – there is not a large common area for guests to sit on beanbags and watch DVDs – however, the bar (and adjacent park) is a great place to relax and meet other guests and local people.

We also have some of Australia’s best blues musicians play live in the bar every Saturday night between 8:30 and 10:30.

We are conveniently located near Chinatown and Central Station (Sydney’s main train station) in a quiet and leafy part of historic Ultimo, adjacent to a park. Darling Harbour is a 5 minute walk away and colourful Glebe, with its markets and cafes’ is a ten minute stroll.

Also nearby are Surry Hills and Newtown; famous for nightlife, and cafes and restaurants. Sydney locals tend not go to the city CBD, where most of the hostels are - unless it's to work or shop. Once you have seen the major attractions our staff can give local advice that isn't in the guide books.

The Lord Wolseley Hotel is also one of the oldest and smallest pubs in Sydney and certainly one of the most original. It has operated non-stop since 1881. The hotel will appeal to people that appreciate local institutions, and basic, clean and spacious accommodation at a very inexpensive rate.

Monday - Friday: 10:30am - Midnight.
Saturday 11:30am - Midnight:
Sunday: 11.30pm - 10pm.

Please note that outside of peak hour we are about $30 taxi from the airport.
Both airport shuttle buses and the train from the airport cost $16 per person, so it is not cost-effective to use these services unless you are traveling alone.

PLEASE BE AWARE; that because our reception closes at midnight (and 10pm on Sundays), if your flight lands within 1.5 hours of reception closing, you should definitely catch a taxi, as it will be cheaper than arranging a late check-in if you are late.

To be eligible to stay in a dorm; you must be under the age of 40, unless you are a visitor from overseas. Note, when booking out all the beds in an entire dorm this rule is irrelevant.

Under 18s must be accompanied by guardians. View House Rules

Me and my friend- two English Female backpackers had a great stay here. The staff were lovely especially Rosaline, who went the extra mile to ensure we were enjoying our stay. She was so welcoming and was always scrubbing everything clean. The rooms were great providing a towel and two keys so security was good. I would definitely recommend staying again. Thank you for having us!!

Its one the cleanest and quietest hostel I have ever been to. Its very close darling harbour, yet very quite at the end of day after you come back to hostel exhausted. The location is very close if you prefer travelling by light trains (1 minute walk to exibition center) and buses. Darling harbour is just a 10 minutes walk from the location (by walk) Town hall 5-8 minutes by light train. QVB 5-8 minutes by light train. The hosts were very helpful, welcoming and lovely people. I highly recommend.

This was our first hostel in Sydney and loved it! A bit of a walk to get to CBD, but the atmosphere was super quaint, large room, and great restaurant and pub connected. Would definitely stay again!

Good central location. We had a large room with big windows. Stayed for NYE which obviously resulted in inflated prices. Staff, especially the cleaner, were friendly and helpful. It is directly over the pub but we had no issues with noise. Not a typical hostel.

Friendly good staff basic accommodations and relatively clean. Super worth it and the pub attached to it downstairs is a great local watering hole! Would stay here again!

    Very Good

I personally had a great time! That being said, I stayed over the Xmas holiday and the staff partied perhaps a bit too hard and was not around in the morning for check-in/check-out! This did not me but made it difficult for a small group looking to check in. The staff are very fun (if ya couldn't guess!) and the Irish pub is a blast - a local/expat mixing pot not too far off from many sights. Definitely a great value even if the accomodations were a tad antiquated. If you're Irish it's a must!

    Very Good

A bit dated. We checked into a double private room which included towels and when we went to use them some bugs fell out! Also saw bugs in the kitchen and toilet. Didn’t feel particularly clean after that. There isn’t much in the way of kitchen facilities either and it was a tiny kitchen space. Not a place for meeting people. Great location though and the pub below was nice but very quiet with locals, though it was Christmas time so perhaps quieter than usual.

The location is great and the staff was accommodating with the issue we had while staying there. The issue was roaches in our room. Ever see Joe's Apartment? That was our room. It seems the restaurant below had bombed the kitchen area a week or so prior to our stay and the roaches had moved upstairs. Our original room was directly above the kitchen. We mentioned the issue to staff and they moved us to a different room and refunded a bit of our money. Kind of disappointing way to start our trip.

No kitchen, no courtyard, no place to chill except of the room and the bar(closed 10 pm), phone number online is wrong, not good at all for backpackers.
