Property Description

Lux Pillow opened in the summer of 2017 – and it’s a budget traveller’s dream. The prices are low for the region and the value is solid. Lux Pillow hostel offer free pick up from New Bagan.

Lux Pillow has three air conditioned rooms with four beds per room and one room with eight beds. All the furniture is new and the mattresses are thick. One of the rooms even has an en suite bath. All showers have both hot and cold water.

You can book day trips and trekking trips at the front desk. You can also book an electric bike to make your excursion to the ancient temples – although your excursion will be short because Lux Pillow is in the very heart of Old Bagan.

Myanmar women wear Thanaka on their faces to protect their skin from the intense sun. The hostel is delighted to help its guests try Thanaka themselves. It also offers its guests local plum and tamarind juice.

The hostel is in a quiet area – although all of Bagan is quiet. The hostel is not a party place; it’s a safe, secure place you can use as a base to explore the amazing temples in the immediate vicinity.

Lux Pillow has a kitchen its guests are welcome to use. The kitchen includes a refrigerator, hot plate, rice cooker, microwave, and all the plates and cutlery you need. The front desk can arrange to wash and dry your laundry on site. The high-speed WiFi is very reliable – a notable point in an area that rarely boasts an amenity so important to Western travelers. It also has an ample supply of electrical outlets – unlike most other hostels, guests don’t have to charge their devices serially. The hostel has a green garden in front that’s a meeting point for travelers from around the world. The hostel also has a beautiful balcony at second floor that provides a soft breeze and fresh air.

There are several excellent restaurants nearby that offer Myanmar, Western, and vegetarian food at very reasonable prices.

The owner spent the last couple decades as a travel agent all across Myanmar; he’s a treasure trove of detailed information about the most remarkable sites in the country and he’s eager to share what he knows with his guests. View House Rules

Really cozy and quiet hostel, a great base to explore Bagan. Breakfast is really good too, with samosas and churros, fruits, bread and jam, coffee tea juice... The owner is super friendly and helpful. He traveled around the world, has lot of good stories to share, and knows what a traveler needs! Thanks for everything Cho!

A great cheap place to stay, thats a hreat locations. Hostel owner is very helpful with advice and arranging transport (eg e-bikes and boat to Mandalay). Its very small and basic, but good value for money especially as there is aircon and its a great location.

    Very Good

A small family-run hostel located in Bagan city centre. Close to many restaurants and shopping outlets. Problem is that the hostel only has one toilet located on the ground floor, so you might have to come down from the first floor to do your business. Staff reception is just so-so. Strict allocation of breakfast with no 24/7 free coffee or tea. The only thing I liked most is its air-conditioning running 24 hours. Good internet connection. Recommend if you wish to stay for a day or two.

Hostel is a bit far from old bagan and the rest of the pagodas. Staff wasn’t always in the front desk. They don’t have lockers in the rooms but breakfast was really good. The rooms were clean and the bed was comfy. They had air conditions in the rooms which was nice from the heat in Bagan.

We stayed here three nights in January 2019. We were put in a private room with two twin size beds, and we had numerous sightings of bedbugs during our stay. We didn't realize what they were at the time, but we cannot in good conscience recommend anyone stay here until this problem is solved. After reading more about the topic it seems this room had a very bad infestation which has really put a damper on our travels. While the staff was very lovely I would recommend looking elsewhere.

We didn’t enjoy our time at this hostel. It was extremely unclean. Our bathroom smelled horrible and there was brown splatter all over the walls. There was a 2 hour power outage and we basically melted. There is no atmosphere and whenever there was something to be done the older men made the 10 yr old boy do it. This young boy also had to sleep on the reception floor each night. Seemed cruel.

There were cockroaches in the bathroom, cold showers, leaking air con, unclean everything, and I woke up to a mouse in my bed at 4am. We had booked 3 nights but only lasted 2. The room was cheap but you can get much better for the same price. The staff were nice and friendly, but the main reception guy sleeps in the hostel reception. When we said there was a mouse he apologised and got the maid to clean the room but we still weren’t willing to risk another night of an unwelcome visitor.

Don't go there if you expect a minimum of quality service. This place is managed like teenagers taking care of their room. Our room wasn't cleaned and we had to sleep in dirt for days. The staff can be rude with you as well. The scooter rental is a great initiative but it was not well charged while it indicated a fully charged battery. We got stucked after 8km. They told us they will come pick it up. We waited 1h30 and nobody came. The owner told us himself he doesn't care about service quality.
