Hostelworld says

Decked out in comic book theme throughout, this is one of the coolest hostels you're likely to see. And like all good Meininger hostels, its location is hard to beat. It's just 15 minutes from Grand Place and 300m from the Porte de Flandre, so it's not hard to explore the city's sights and bars from this spot. The hostel doesn't hold back on features either. The bar is the perfect place to meet fellow travellers or you can bond over games of pool or on the Wii. What's more, it's green as can be, being completely CO2 neutral.

Property Description

The hotel is situated directly on the Canal de Charleroi a short 15 minute walk from the Grand Place and 300 meters from the Porte de Flandre, at the heart of Belgian city life a perfect starting point for your exploration of this European metropolis.

Take note!... the comic-book theme can be found throughout the entire building. Walls, tables and floors are resplendent with comic-book figures and modern street art. For the sake of the environment the hotel has CO2-neutral management!

An all-you-can-eat-and-drink breakfast buffet awaits you in the morning. A self serve guest kitchen is also at your disposal, where you'll find a stove, microwave oven and kitchen utensils, as well as washers and dryers. The hotel bar, snack machines and the reception are there to provide you with information, small snacks and drinks. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel, and if you don't have your own laptop with you, our internet terminals are located in the lobby next to the gallery. If you've had your fill of sightseeing and are looking for entertainment in the hotel, you can meet people from all over the world over a game of kicker, billiards or wii.

Overview

Built in an old brewery, MEININGER Brussels City Center has a warehouse vibe with a twist. Look closer and you'll see graffiti everywhere, from tiny figures sketched on tables and floors to large comic-inspired murals on the walls. Our fun-loving design, along with our awesome social spaces, might explain why we've nailed the top spot as the Hoscars' Most Popular Hostels in Brussels every year since 2015. Update your travel diary over a drink in our lively bar, relax on our outdoor terrace, or get into some pool in our games room.

Location

You'll find us on the Canal de Charleroi, 300 metres from Porte de Flandre station and a 40-minute journey by train to Brussels Airport. Ask staff at the 24-hour reception for recommendations on the best sights to see, and they'll also give you the lowdown on the tours from our hostel. They can point you in the direction of the Grand Place, Brussels' central square, just a 15-minute walk away.

Rooms and Dorms

When you've checked in, grab your key card and head up to your room using the lift (because who likes lugging luggage up several flights?). We've got single, double and multi-bed spaces or dorms with free bedding and security lockers for a fee. Each room has its own bathroom and TV for morning-after lazing. If you go for a private room you'll get towels to rent too – so no need to pack one.

Extras and activities

We have a filling breakfast every morning for a small fee, or you can use the fully equipped kitchen – with a stove, microwave oven and kitchen utensils – to make yourself a meal. Snacks and drinks are available in the vending machines and at reception if you don't feel like cooking. You'll also find computers in the lobby if you're travelling without your tablet or laptop. Otherwise, Wi-Fi's free throughout the hostel.

First time solo travelling felt very comfortable here, very clean and in a good locationnonly 10mins from the centre (walking). Good friendly vibe there and staff were lovely too. Didnt have breakfast there as it was €9 and I prefered getting breakfast in the centre anyway, food choice at the bar at night wasnt great but had a pizza my first night which was good. Overall would recommend highly and will stay in a Menninger Hostel again!

A beautiful hostel, more of a hotel really. Dorm was very modern and well equipped with a great shower and comfy bed. Also had separate shower, toilet and sink which was very helpful. Staff were friendly and helpful. Location is a little walk out of town but not bad at all. As it’s more of a hotel, there isn’t much of a social scene, but there is a bar and restaurant on site. Reasonably priced and convenient, I would certainly recommend this hostel.

Everything was great except for the fact that someone threw away my food even though I wrote in the bag provided my name, room # and the date of check out which is what they ask for. I found myself in the lobby without my food that I was going to take back on a long bus ride in the morning. I quickly had to go buy myself more food before my bus left. Not cool.

A bit expensive, and breakfast was extra, but I'd say it was overall worth it for the clean, comfortable facilities and the good location (walking distance from the center, quiet locale). It has a kitchen with most of what you'll need to cook your own food.

There were three of us and we booked a six bed mixed dorm, but got placed in a four bed dorm. The room was spacious and clean, and like other reviews have stated was really hot. This wasn't a problem though, as we spoke to reception and got a free fan. The toilet and shower were separate, which was handy and the shower had really good pressure. Overall, a really nice place and would definitely stay again.

It’s a very nice hostel overall. It’s enormous, which makes it hard to know people. There’s not an intimate hostel ambiance. And the kitchen is very well equipped, although too small. So at night it was crowded and it was very hard to cook there.

The two things I did not love about the hostel was it’s location and it’s bath set up. The location of the hostel is still a 20 minute train ride to the center and over a 30 minute walk. I stayed in a room with 10 people and only have one toilet and one shower. It took a while for everyone to get ready which cut into my day of exploring. Other than those two things, the hostel was very nice, clean, and has a great staff.

For a couple or family good place to stay. It is not a hostel/hotel with a very personal vibe. Check-in was pretty cold and quick. I think every good hostel should have at least tea for free in the morning. Also luggage should be possible to store for free and not be charged with a fee.

This was more like a proper hotel than a hostel. Lots of children and families more so then most Hostel type places. Good location and easy transport options. I would stay again.
