Property Description

Built in 1831, Madame Isabelle’s family moved into the property at the turn of the century, in the 1900’s. Her family expanded and decorated the house before Madame Isabelle’s father passed it down to her. Madame Isabelle and her husband continued to renovate the house until they left the city in 2002.

The house is tastefully ornamented and furnished, staying faithful to the architectural characteristics typical of old New Orleans houses in the area. As we are proud of every single detail that makes this house special, we encourage you to enjoy every part of it and we welcome you to feel at home during your stay.

Once you venture out of the house, a vibrant neighborhood welcomes you. Delicious restaurants and local bars share the streets with Creole cottages and shotgun houses. Though set in a quiet area, thriving nightlife is easily accessible from Madame Isabelle’s House. Frenchmen Street is only five minutes away by foot, Bourbon Street is within ten minutes walking distance, and Canal Street, which connects you to Mid-City and Uptown, twenty minutes away by foot. If you would like to explore more than the downtown area without heading all the way to Canal Street, there is a bus stop conveniently located at the corner of the street that can transport you to any of the city’s many renowned tourist destinations.

Rooms and dorms
Dormitory rooms as well as private rooms are available. There are two and three person private rooms in the house. Almost all of our private rooms are equipped with a cable TV, a refrigerator, and a private bathroom. All beds are equipped with new, 8-inch mattresses and linens; however, you may not want to stay in your room for too long as the hidden courtyard garden awaits you, replete with an outdoor deck and a Jacuzzi hot tub.

Only stayed here one night but it was great! The staff was very friendly and the hostel was so cute with a great backyard to hang out in. I had a private dorm which was very clean and tidy. Just a short 7min drive to Jackson Square, great location!

Really nice hostel. The owner is nice and helpful. I'd say best atmosphere you can find during this covid situation 🤷‍♂️. Very clean. The area was close enough to the party but far enough to be able to relax. Definitely would go back 👍👍.

Fourth time staying at this discreet little hostel - one of my favorites anywhere. It's quiet enough, social enough, cute, local, and convenient enough to not want for anything else. The owner provides ample extras and opportunities to engage with fellow travelers (a good mix of young and mature) and always has nice staff. Though in other cities, I appreciate the glam new hostel experience, in New Orleans you'd be missing out if you didn't have breakfast in a quaint tropical courtyard.

Madame Isabelle's is a beautiful, welcoming place. Comfy beds and a great unit for AC and heat. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful about securing our luggage before and after our stay. Property itself felt extremely secure too. Breakfast provided was decent and we had tons of space for fridge storage in our own room and in the common space. We were provided with some toiletries, towels, and the room had a TV. We wish we could have enjoyed the community more - hopefully we'll be back!

Any return trip to New Orleans I'd stay again. Sublime location, historic building, and closest hostel to the french quarter by far, very walk-able. It's a 15 minute stroll down Frenchman street to the nearest street car. I enjoyed my stay so much that I extended a couple days. COVID precautions limit occupancy capacity leaving me feeling safe to stay. Although many of the activities were postponed, a lite breakfast was provided every day. Sean and the staff were good folk I'm happy to have met

I really enjoyed my stay here! Maui was adorable, good location, and the workers had great hospitality. The only things I missed were that the bathrooms didn't have body wash, shampoo, or a place to set my things on, and I wanted to use the hot tub, but it wasn't running until I left (I should have made a point to ask but it wasn't clear). I loved the breakfast, walking tour, jambalaya night, and music burlesque crawls.

This is a very nice hostel. If you're looking for a place where you can relax in the green backyard - on your own or socializing - this is the one. The breakfast is great, and the staff is friendly and helpful. Carell literally saved our lives because he did some last-minute printing for us in the middle of the night.
