Property Description

Magic Bus Hostel Otaru is located on the Hanazono Street in Otaru, which is a favorite street for locals. Along this street, there are many sushi restaurants, izakayas, ramen shops, burgers, cafes...

There are also many Japanese-style small bar, called 'スナック', to experience the otaru daily life, Hanazono Street is definitely worth to live in! On the hillside behind us, walk for about 10 minutes, you can get to the Suiten Palace (水天宮). It is the best spot to enjoy the view of the sea view of Otaru Harbor.

It is also a popular spot for sakura viewing in May. There are also many locals coming here to pray! From the hostel, there is a Lawson and a large supermarket coop nearby.

If you want cooking in our place, it is very convenient. We like our guests have a spacious public rest area. So we careful designed public area on every floor. Especially the first floor, which the whole floor is only for you to relax!

Even the hostel can accommodate up to 41 people, we insist on providing each person with a seat of their own. We believe the most important atmosphere of the youth hostel is the public space atmosphere,.

When we were planning, we had a picture in our minds: each person sitting in a chair, reading a book , or sliding a mobile phone, or looking at a travel propaganda, with a cup of tea or coffee. one of them is pulling his chair, going to the next table and chatting with people.

We love and expect this happen from the bottom of my heart. View House Rules

A really nice, clean, place with a helpful and accommodating staff. It was super quiet during my stay which I don’t have a problem with. A little pricey compared to other hostels but I don’t have any other complaints!

Would be perfect if every bed has a small shelf on the wall.

Stayed for 1 night in Otaru, dorm rooms were nice and more private the way they are set out. Lots of common spaces and large shower block. Staff really friendly and helpful Great value Only thing was mattress was quite hard and beds not very long if you are tall! But bedding was fresh and super comfy 😊

It was a great stay and the staff was amazing, but I’ve been to other places in japan that were just better for around the same price. The only really complaint I have about the whole stay though is how cold the bathroom and first floor were we eat is.

A good hostel choice if you're looking to stay overnight in Otaru. The hostel was practically empty when I was there but I actually liked having a lot of solo time. The facilities are good and I actually found the beds pretty comfortable despite being pretty thin.

Really nice hostel just had very short beds. If you’re over 5’8” it might be hard to sleep here. They also close the building at 2400 so don’t plan a night out.

The hostel was clean! At my time of stay there were almost no guests. But there is a lot of cozy commen space! Bathrooms are really nice as well! The staff was invisible, everytime I had a question I had to WhatsApp them (which i did not like). And the beds were really hard: plank, futon, you. The hardest bed which I encountered in Japan.

A decent place to stay in Otaru if you don’t want to pay hotel prices! Everything was very clean and the owner was friendly. Bedding was very comfortable and the privacy curtain allowed for a really nice sleep. Location is ok, walking from the station with luggage in the thick snow was tough, so if coming in winter would recommend a short taxi ride.

    Good

It says private rooms but they are far from private. There are no doors to most of the rooms just short curtains to designate a “private” room. Also there are small windows that are open cut outs connecting each room to other rooms. Therefore at night when our neighbors got back late we could hear every word they said. The beds are not mattresses but instead are the cover you can put on a futon to make it more soft. So it was hard as a rock. The beds are short because they are for kids. I’m 5’3.
