Hostelworld says

Travellers looking to experience the unique atmosphere of Granada would do well to start at Makuto Backpackers Hostel. This friendly, laid-back hostel in the Albayzín features an outdoor terrace with a bar and a treehouse as well as comfy lounge areas with hammocks, cushions and guitars. One Hostelworld guest told us, 'after trying two other highly rated hostels in the city I much preferred sitting in the tree house in the sun'. They also serve budget-friendly home-cooked dinners. We like their free evening walking tours of the Albayzín and Sacromonte.

Squeeze every drop of fun out of Granada by staying at Makuto Backpackers Hostel. The best sights are within walking distance of our 18th-century mansion, but if you want to relax, that's OK, too! We're all about uniting the backpacker spirit with laid-back Spanish vibes. So hang out on a hammock on our patio or put your feet up in our lounge while you watch a movie or play a musical instrument. We'll set you up for the day with a free breakfast and we'll take you on free sunset walking tours through local neighbourhoods!

From Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaén Airport, hop on the bus to the city centre and get off at the cathedral. From there we’re about a 13-minute walk. We’re surrounded by the historic neighbourhood of Albaicín, just five minutes' walk from the San Nicolas viewpoint where you can take in (and snap) amazing views of the Alhambra palace. There are sunny squares to wander through and impressive Arabic architecture to spot. The Santa Isabel la Real monastery is pretty much on our doorstep.

Rooms and Dorms

We have a choice of dorm sizes and you can opt for mixed or female-only. Some have air con and en-suites. There's free linen on every bunk and free shampoo and soap in the bathrooms. You can hire a towel from reception if you haven't brought one and hairdryers are free to use. Secure your stuff in a locker to keep it safe when you're out and about.

Extras and activities

You're invited to get stuck into our cheap ‘family style’ dinners and sample some of the best mojitos at our bar. Tea and coffee are our treat all day. Our barbecues are perfect for meeting new mates and if you've an eye on your budget, feel free to use our kitchen. Our friendly team is always keen to help: whether it's arranging activities (including diving, paragliding and flamenco shows), exchanging your book or storing your pack after checkout, just ask. Our Wi-Fi's free too!

Makuto is the place to go! Such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. I stayed for 3 nights and I was so sad to leave. Their walking tours really are a must, they show you so many amazing viewpoints and local places. The staff are so nice, always willing to help and always up for a party. I have many happy memories and I can’t wait to come back!

Instantly I felt welcomed at this paradise in the clouds - lovely helpful staff, chilled vibe, sociable and all around happy atmosphere. Perfect for solo travellers as well. The walking tour, watching the sunset and visiting the community who live in the caves was my highlight as well as drinking special Sangria mixed with Gin...(?!) would 100% recommend. Thank you!!

This was the third time I’ve stayed at makuto and i can’t wait to go back! I’ve stayed at many hostels in many cities and none of them can compare. It’s so welcoming and comfortable. Each time I’ve made friends with the guests and the amazing staff so it’s amazing for solo and group travelers. The beds are super comfy and they have small room safes. Totally recommend!

Makuto hostel is a really wonderful place. As soon as my sister and I arrived, the staff greeted us warmly and took us on a tour of our room and the shared areas, both of which are lovely. The atmosphere within the hostel is like a family environment. The staff and volunteers make everyone feel incredibly welcome and included. The cleanliness and facilities are also good but most of all, it’s worth visiting because it feels like a magical place with wonderful people. 10/10 would recommend x

In my room, there was a couple in the bunk above me having sex and a man in the bed next to me completely naked. Also the code to the room doesn't change (isn't a key to get in) so anyone who has seen or used the key can enter the room.

Makuto Coliving House says

I think what makes us really special is that we pay a lot of attention to our common areas since we think this is what a hostel is all about. That's why we have three main outdoor areas - a patio and cosy bar to meet your fellow travellers in; Mexican hammocks for relaxing in; and a superb tree house for hanging out or catching a bit of sun. Plus we've got a chill-out area with a tree inside, a big BBQ close to the kitchen and tons more. We've really run away from the modern, impersonal set-up of some other hostels. For instance, it's free to use our shower, internet and kitchen after check-out if needed!
We're in a superb location in the Albaicin. It feels like a village in the middle of a city because 90% of the streets in our neighbourhood are cobblestone and pedestrian, with white facades, nice little squares, labyrinthine streets and cute houses. I always recommend that guests visit the Daral Horra Palace (where Boabdil's mother lived) and Bañuelo (Arab baths from XI century).
I think generally our hostel is suited for backpackers between 20 and 30 years old, but it really depends on guest's spirit, open mind and feeling. We have had older guests that loved Makuto because they said it has the essence of a hostel and loved common areas and younger ones whose parents have sent us presents after their stay as thanks for making them feel so comfortable.
