The owners are very passionate about travel advice, mainly regarding Fraser Island, as they have had many years experience with bush walking options and all tours with exciting transfers to and from the island for all levels of enthusiasm and fitness. There is a great range of Fraser Island tours departing from the Mango Hostel every day and can be booked with us.

The hostel is situated 200m (less than 5min walk) from Hervey Bay's beachfront with shops, restaurants, Internet, supermarket, bars & cafes. You always get a good description of what is nice to do or eat around the area.

After a complete renovation the house has even more security, character, and comfort. We provide free WIFI ,an equipped kitchen, common room/living room, separate toilets and showers for males and females, laundry, and an outdoor dining area with a tropical-island theme. Gardens are lush with verandahs and deck area, a perfect place for spotting wildlife.

The owners have contact with some local people with yachts, aircraft, kayaks, 4WD-vehicles and knowledge of the unvisited reef, island, and outback areas. It's getting harder to find out about these things. Be passionate Stop rushing it!

Mango Hostel is a hidden gem, charming, clean and easy walking distance to the waterfront and restaurants. Phil was very helpful and gave us lots of tips on getting to Fraser Island. Thank you! Rod & Annemarie

Great hostel with outstanding value for money. The host Phil was eager to help us with our trip planning and was easy to talk to. Our private room was comfortable, with an air fan and access to the front porch.

Nice little hostel. Its more like you're staying in a guest house. The owner is a very sweet guy, though the owner and Hostel World don't communicate together. He didn't know I was checking in and it seems he didn't sign up with HW to advertise his property. I would suggest contacting the owner before your arrival. Short walk to town, the owner will give you great suggestions for restaurants. It's a very quiet hostel; after Fraser Island I was grateful for a good night sleep.

Overall, our one night stay was quite an unusual one. The owner, was a nice enough guy, but seemed very unorganised and he came across a bit full on and a bit forward. The hostel itself felt more like we were sleeping in a strangers house. The kitchen area smelled funny, our room was a little strange and quite narrow, we were not given towels and we weren't actually shown to our room, or shown any of the facilities. It is a 10 minute walk at most from the beachfront, so that was good.

A lot of Moskitos. Got stung on my feet all over (I used insect repellent) and the stings got infected just two days later. Staffs were very kind and friendly, but weird,o sadly. I was the only person in the 'Hostel' (if you really want to call it like that) and felt quite uncomfortable. I didn't want to leave my things in the Hostel, because I got feared that they get stolen. No door is looked, the whole house is open to every side.

Honestly, I would avoid this place at all cost. Arrived at around 8pm to a deserted house and had to wait 30 mins for the staff. This 'hostel' is just a house owned by the couple behind the property who seem rather eccentric to say the least. Absolutely 0 security - every door actually left open for anyone to walk in, beds are tiny, no aircon and not even any soap to wash your hands in the kitchen or bathroom ?! Mosquito central and lizards jump around the kitchen frequently. Do not stay here.

Staff were weird/rude, there seems to be no security at all! All windows and doors were left open at all times, would never stay here again
