Property Description

If you’re planning a trip to the Maasai Mara check us out!

Aimed at fun friendly adventure travellers, we offer simple and comfortable rustic accommodation including eight budget dome tents, five cottages and two safari tents as well as having a large camping area if you come with your own tent.

We provide clean facilities with hot showers, cozy bar and dining area with freshly prepared meals for our full board guests and a small self-catering kitchen area with fridge, gas stove and basic utensils for our guests who prefer to prepare their own meals.

Our electricity is 100% solar with just a back up generator for bad weather days, therefore we ask you to refrain from using high wattage items such as hair dryers. We also have seven friendly dogs and three happy cats living onsite so if you do not like cats and dogs, you may not enjoy it here!

From our base here you can partake in activities including game drives, nature walks, school and village visits, home stays, bush camping, botanical gardens visits, traditional meals and hot air ballooning. Located just 3.8km before the Sekenani gate of the Maasai Mara National Reserve and only 300m from the main road, we are accessible via public transport or we can organise you private transfers from Nairobi if you prefer which cost US$ 150 (1-4pax) or US$ 250 (5-12pax) each way per vehicle and the journey takes around 5 hours.

We have Land Cruisers based at our camp for game drives which are converted for game viewing and are inclusive of an experienced driver guide and fuel.
Game drives cost US$ 60 per person per full day, minimum of 2 people required. In the event there are no other guests, solo travellers will be required to pay the rate of 2 people. Your personal park entry is payable on top which is US$ 80 per adult per day. Private use of a game drive vehicle for just your own group can also be arranged, contact us in advance for rates and booking.

As well as plenty of space if you come with your own tent we have simple single and double budget dome tents which share communal toilet and shower facilities. We also have two double ensuite safari tents and various cottages which can sleep between 1-5 people in each with private toilet and shower attached.

All our accommodation is complete with comfortable beds which have linens, blankets and towels included and the tents have solar powered lighting inside. Due to being 100% solar powered, charging of electronics is done centrally in our bar area so we can monitor high wattage items. Charging is also available in the self catering kitchen area.

Our Hostel World rates are based on self catering and the use of our small self catering kitchen area in the campsite is included in the price. Individual set meals are also available from the camp kitchen at a cost of $10 per person for breakfast, $10 per person for lunch (packed lunches can be provided for full day game drives) and $15 per person for 3 course dinner. After going through several safaris in Kenya and Tanzania this is an easy 10/10. The staff are great. Tent is on a platform with a raised bed, lantern, bug spray, and ear plugs. Hot showers. It's still a camp so you'll stumble in the dark to the showers and bathroom, bring a head lamp. Workable wifi and charging points in the main building. Can get here easily with public transport. ~$10/meal. Safari is in a proper vehicle, good English speaking guide. Best experience for the $$$.

Everything is perfect. Especially the staffs, they were amazing!! The food is kinda expensive tho. Paid $10 for a packed lunch set and the meals were just noodles and a bunch of snacks. Dinner was $15 and not as good as I expected. But I came here not for some dining experience so it’s fine. Totally recommended!!

Perfect place to arrange your (budget) safari. We enjoyed it a lot. Reasons are: good introduction/welcome by staff, perfect location: just 5 minutes from the entry gate to the park, not that difficult to arrive to by public transport (due to new road), really nice budget tents with good beds it, kitchen available for self-catering, and a super friendly and knowledgeable guide/driver during the safari! Many thanks to Adrian, Mike, Jackson and the Mara Explorers team!

The tent was surprisingly comfortable and the campsite was well maintained. The staff were nice and helpful. Meals are expensive though, so try to bring your own groceries as there is a kitchen. I did the shared safari drive twice and Brennice and Daniel were both amazing at spotting animals (we saw all of the big five). Mara Explorers is by far the most budget and high-value way of seeing the Masai Mara! Just make sure you’re prepared for the long and bumpy drive there :)

Mara Explorers Camp is a few kilometers away from the Sekenani gate entrance of the Masai Mara National Reserve. As the camp is solar powered charging your devices is restricted to the main reception/lobby area of the camp and not within the tents. WiFi is also bound to the same areas and depends on the available bandwidth based on the number of users logged in. The main reason for coming here is the actual game drives which can last up to a 12 hour period. The meal options are very generous.

    Fabulous

Staff is great, sweet and helpful. But they put me in a different room than the one I’d booked. One can’t leave the place at night without paying for “overpriced” taxis ($10 for a 5 min ride) as it’s unsafe to walk to the city centre. the hostel is around 20 min walking to the centre but the street has no public lights. So I’d recommend to stay somewhere in the centre to avoid unnecessary expenses.

    Very Good

Its a nice campiste with very organized facilities. Friendlly staffs and nice location. During my staying at Mara Explorerers was not posible to go for Game Drive/safari. Make sure to book Safaris in advance because they are not so helpfull for independent travellers to join another groups still at high season.
