Matata Guesthouse was a great experience. The staff were kind and the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. In the share room, the bed was very comfortable, and locking lockers were provided alongside a very decent bathroom. Compared to other accommodation in Laos, this was truly a breath of fresh air, worth the few extra USD in my opinion. The mother and baby dog were very cute and there was a very nice outdoor area for socialising. Would recommend

This is such a cute hostel, the dorms were good with banging aircon, but I have to say, the most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept in. The garden is beautiful, and the older Chinese lady who works here is so so kind and makes you feel extremely welcome. I would definitely recommend them, despite the bed issue.

Really sweet hostel just a short walk from the night market and a large supermarket. The staff are lovely and happy to help with anything they can, like booking taxis or trips or giving advice about what to do in the area. The beds are big and comfortable. They have lockable cupboards for a small ish rucksack although they're not totally secure as the locks are fairly weak. All in all I'd definitely stay here and and recommend it to anyone and everyone as a great place to stay. I was in a 4 bed.

Matata is super clean and was a nice quiet escape from our earlier party days. Luang Prabang isn't really wild anymore but Utopia is literally a 2 minute walk from Matata and is the best place in town for atmosphere!

Pictures don't give an accurate depiction of the size of the room. Lockers were very small and didn't work properly so we couldn't lock away our valuables. The shower was attached to the wall without a screen and wasn't hot at all. The beds were hard as concrete.

Perfectly acceptable but not great. There are lockers but the rooms don't really lock -- they lock but the key card is sitting in a holder at the door so anyone can go in. The front desk clerk is almost never there so can be hard to ask for help or to check in quickly. There were large tour groups talking very loudly before 7am waiting for their bus but I don't know how much the hostel can control that. Room was generally comfortable, bathrooms normal for SEA, and towels available upon request.

Excellent location and ticks the box if you what something VERY basic. However, the rooms are tiny and there isn't a lot of space for four people to move around in. The lady at the desk is helpful for booking things, but there is no atmosphere to the hostel, and beware of the cockerel from 04:30... bring earplugs.
