Friendly staff, good location. Very flat beds which is common in Japan. Overall, a good hostel.

Really liked this hostel as it felt more like a home than a normal hostel. Only met Brian, but he was super nice and gave loads of great advice. The other staff were really nice too, and it was easy to relax and have fun. The beds were comfy, the facilities were good, and Matsumoto castle is only a short walk away. The staff will help you go wherever you want to go, and do whatever you want to do. Thanks Backpackers!

Staff were very welcoming, and gave lots of useful information (fantastic map and key of restaurants etc). Would definitely stay again and recommend to others. On a side note everyone should visit ‘Doon Shokudo Indoyama’ - best homemade Indian curry in Japan!

One of the best hostels during my one month stay in Japan! Great atmosphere and friendly and helpful staff. The common area was excellent for meeting other travelers. I felt very comfortable there. Good experience if you want to sleep on tatamis! Fortunately there were even 2 mattresses and because it was a bit cool a warm hot water bottle was lying in my bed when I arrived. I can only recommend it! I really enjoyed my stay there!

The rooms are all futons, which I found didn't quite agree with me. The staff are other travelers, who are great guys. The atmosphere in the common area was consistently pleasant. Kitchen a little underequipped, but otherwise very good. I met the owner briefly, but he was very pleasant as well. Would definitely return there when I come back to Matsumoto.

    Very Good

Fun little hostel. Definitely a good affordable option for any traveler. Great location close to the downtown and train station. The staff and hostel owners had compiled some custom maps of places to eat and things to see not only in Matsumoto, but in the entire prefecture. No lack of suggestions for day trips and activities. Only drawback is privacy. As an introvert, I recharge my social batteries through isolation and I never felt like I had my own 'space'. Otherwise a good stay.

Hostel was decent, in a good location and fairly clean. Compared to other hostels however it was quite expensive for a pretty basic hostel, have stayed in nice for much cheaper.

This is a traditional Japanese house and, therefore, not purpose built for dorm rooms and backpackers. The rooms are very basic and slightly over crowded. There are only two showers for around 15-20 people so expect to queue. The kitchen had basic facilities and the common area is very small but nice to have both to be able to use if you want to. There seems to be a number of backpackers helping out with running the hostel not all of whom are that engaged with making your stay the best possible.
