Kaoru was the sweetest host! I stayed at this location for eight nights with my 1 year old daughter & it was the best decision. She was very hospitable & went out of her way every day to help us. She drove me to the local Onsen a few times, drove me to grocery shop & do laundry, & even in to town. We celebrated my daughter’s first birthday there & it was very special. If you want to experience Japanese culture I highly recommend this hostel. She makes you feel so welcome. She felt like family.

Hands down my best experience with accommodation in Japan. Kaoru was an incredible host and went above and beyond to make sure I had a pleasant stay. I wanted to travel a few hours away to go mountain biking and she showed me all the trains to take. She took her time and showed me all of the interesting things to see in Matsushiro as well as educate me about all of the great history there. Hopefully i will have the chance to visit again in December. ありがとうございます!

Kaoru is such an incredible host and has a real passion for the history and culture of the area. She's a part of a beautiful community and I was made to feel so welcome at her guest house and in Matsushiro. This is without a doubt the most unique experience I'll take with me from my time in Japan.

Absolutely fantastic place. The host, Kaoru-san, couldn't have been nicer and more helpful. She drove us to an onsen and picked us up again, gave us all the tips for the town, made us snacks and even stayed to party with us! The house is 126 years old and super traditionally Japanese - like straight out of a movie. Beautiful! And comfy... everything (facilities, futons,...) was nice and clean, and the kotatsu was a lifesaver in the cold winter air. Matsushiro is also a hidden gem!

Loved my stay here. Loved it. Cannot recommend it enough. On my first night, me and two other guests were driven to an onsen by the owner and she kindly picked us up after too. She was incredibly helpful and welcoming and it felt more like a home to me than a guesthouse. The place has a lovely atmosphere and I can't wait to return!

Absolutely fantastic and authentic Japanese experience. Couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay. Next to some beautiful mountain ranges, you can experience the relaxed and pleasant living style of traditional Japanese people. Great food near by, highly recommend Jubi restaurant and bar just down the road. Can’t wait to come back maybe in the winter time! Thank you so much!!

We really enjoyed our stay here. The hostel's owner was super helpful in directing us around Matsushiro and even drove us to two different onsen on the two nights we were there. Overall the lodging is quaint and honestly represents the relaxed city. Definitely recommend!

Such a great host - drove me to the local onsen that was an amazing experience, really authentic. Would have slept perfectly if not for the crazy snoring next to me but that’s not the fault of the hostel!

We stayed here for 2 nights and we really loved it! Fantastic atmosphere and so authentic. The host was so sweet and help us a lot - she even drove us to the start of the hiking pate when we wanted to hike up a mountain. If you are planing on hiking in the area then remember insect repellent!!!

Karou (the owner) was very hospitable. She was a huge help while I was there. I wanted to visit the Monkey Park so she took the time to print out all the bus information and explain exactly how to get there before I woke up. Later that day she drove and picked me up from the best natural onsen in the area. She even prepared a plate of authentic local Japanese cuisine for me to try when I got back. Delicious! Her place is a must if you are looking for a traditional ryoken experience.
