Facilities were not well advertised eg other kitchen and laundry. Otherwise great location, ideal for a few days in Wanaka 😊

This is a perfectly acceptable hostel to stay. There is room for improvement: Wifi is not working a lot of the time in the lounge area, or anywhere, or on mobile phones. The kitchen does not feature pans without damage to the teflon and frequently the few pots and pans that are available are either dirty or in use, which makes for a sad cooking experience. There is not much storage space in the dorm rooms. Typical hostel problems. Still, I had a pleasant stay there and would stay there again.

I enjoyed my stay at the Matterhorn. Good location close to the supermarket, pubs and shops. Not the most sociable hostel though so probably better if you want some alone time or are travelling in a group, as it felt like we had the whole kitchen/bbq area to ourselves.

    Good

It was fine, and the general facilities totally fine. But considering I paid for a private room with ensuite, I think I had an even worse located room than the dorms, totally not private at all. Hot in the room and I had a choice of door open on the ground floor or ac that smelt of petrol. Bathroom and room in general a bit dingy. No free coffee. To be fair I only have a hostel in Christchurch to compare but that was much better. Staff very chilled. Brilliant location. So overall, it was fine.

Wasn’t a fan of this hostel. It was absolutely freezing and the blanket on my bed smelt so bad I had to keep it below my waist. It’s pretty old and run down. I got a voucher for 3GB of wifi. I used it for about 20 minutes the first night, was out of the hostel from 3AM-11PM the next day and it suddenly said I had used 3GB already and cut me off... kitchen was good and location was great. Probably wouldn’t stay again.

This place is decent enough for a quick stopover but I wouldn't stay more than a night if you enjoy sleep. The beds are uncomfortable, our room wasn't clean and there's a bar right next door that you can hear until the early hours. The kitchen was cramped and messy with barely enough pans and utensils. The lounge areas were also too small for everyone to use which meant on a rainy day there was nowhere to sit down. Also there were no lockers in the rooms so it didn't feel very secure.

The low rating is perhaps due to the fact i stayed in the lodge rather than the hostel as the main area was booked out. I found the staff quite cold & very unhelpful - didn't offer any help or advice about Wanaka, really just the bare minimum. The lodge was empty, cold, and smelt musty like it had just been opened. Luckily some other ppl checked in, otherwise it would have been a very lonely experience. I left after one night. Location was great.

The rooms and showers were extremely dirty. The kitchen didn't have enough trash bins, so they were overflowing. The over all feeling was that the hostel is simply dirty and is not being cleaned.

Group of 6. Little to no security. WiFi shocking. In general quite clean, but everything is so dated that the whole place came across as tired and in desperate need of repair. The decking literally fell apart under us as we were trying to enjoy the outside space. Rooms ridiculously cramped and beds unstable and squeaking across all dorms. Twin room was a shed with not enough blankets. None of us slept well during our 3+ nights here. Awful value for money. Location good.
